It looks like my problems never end with this site. I'm using jQuery to pull posts tagged "_featured" into the sidebar on a Tumblr blog. I have it calling the title of the text post along with the image included in it. Unfortunately, no matter what I try, this breaks the equal height columns on any page where the content column isn't longer than the sidebars.
I've tried different methods of achieving equal columns (I'm currently using The Equal Heights jQuery Plugin since I'm already using jQuery on the site. I've also tried the padding/negative margin trick and good ol' Faux Equal Columns using a background image. I figured it would be easy to solve it by using the jQuery plugin and wrapping the function call in a $(window).load(function(), but it's still hit or miss (mostly miss right now for some reason).
If anyone has any suggestions, please, save my computer from being thrown. The obvious solution that I'm thinking might work would be to have the JS calling the featured posts to also include the image size, but I'm not sure how I would do that.
The JS calling the featured posts can be viewed here and the site itself is at escapebadmusic.com.
Thanks again, everyone. I think I say this just about every time I post a question, but the help here has saved me a lot of time and frustration. It's always appreciated.
Try running EqualHeights after dom has finished changing.
(to be more specific - you should run EqualHeights after doc.ready, and after you add your image, or changed anything in the dom that affects heights)

Here's a weird one that I've been wracking my brain on.
I want to do two things, in order:
Generate a masonry-style layout from a list of divs, imgs, or whatever. These will utilize images but they can be background images, within the divs, or some other method that works. This can be pure CSS or a jquery plugin.
Once the grid has been generated, apply a physics based plugin like '.throwable' to the individual divs/objects. The objects will fall on each other, but overall retain their structure, much like you'd see in Angry Birds or something.
The goal here is to paste in a list of divs, let a jquery plugin or even pure CSS automatically figure out how to align them, and then apply gravity to the masonry grid.
The problem I've run into over and over is that the masonry grid is generated... but then when I apply a physics system to it, the individual objects snap back to a different position. I think masonry wants them as "relative" while the physics system wants them in "absolute"? Not sure...
I have a rough version of my latest attempt up here if anyone wants to get an idea of what I'm attempting: http://cssdeck.com/labs/full/f5dm0zv8
Jasper's reply hinted at the solution, although I'm not sure why things seemed to work this time for me. I had tried multiple javascript/jquery based masonry plugins, and nothing had worked. I ended up trying "http://masonry.desandro.com/methods.html" and it ended up working for me. I thought I had tried this one already - maybe not? Anyways, I have a more or less working example here, but new issues have arisen: http://output.jsbin.com/runewidapi/2/
Issue: I have problems with this page: http://kivusandcamera.com/blog/ The page loads with a proper layout, but then the two blog entries "jump" to the left behind the navigation bar. I have spent a good bit of time trying work through the various CSS, inspecting it with developer tools, etc..., but I have reached a point where I feel like I need some help. Any advice would be appreciated.
Background: This is just a basic Wordpress theme that I am trying to customize for a website, so I am not 100% sure how
Additional Information: Though I am passingly familiar with CSS, I have done hardly any work involving responsive design, media queries, etc... Basically, I am saying (1) I would not be surprised if it is something really simple that I am missing, and (2) if something could be done a better way, please feel free to let me know.
UPDATE - It looks like this issue might be Javascript or JQuery related. Basically, a style attribute is getting injected into one of the div tags. The style attribute used an absolute position, with a certain width, and I have no idea how to modify it.
UPDATE #2 - It appears the issue happens with any pages I set in the theme to "Full Width" (see also the http://kivusandcamera.com/about page.) I think those pages must get processed differently by JS layout framework that is used. Again, I still haven't figured out how that is all happening.
Turns out there were two separate issues:
(1) The JQuery auto-layout framework was resizing the various page columns with the assumption that the navigation bar was the same size as the individual columns of blog entries. That caused an issue that had to be solved.
(2) The full page CSS had to be updated to reflect the lack of a resizing navigation bar.
Ultimately, these issues were very specific to the this particular Wordpress theme, so I doubt full description of the solution would provide much of a benefit to the community. Thank you to everyone who helped lead me to the solution.
I find my problem a little bit difficult to ask about, because I don't know how to explain it or how to even start searching for an answer. I will try here because I'm really stuck and I know Stack Overflow always helps me find a way to keep going and learning. See if someone can open my eyes.
What I'm looking forward to is to achieve a similar effect as the navigation in uzik's page: (see the grey banner at the bottom? well, that). So, yes, I know how to overlap two divs and just slide one or the other on top using jQuery. In fact, there's this demo that shows how to do that and more beautifully (very interesting link to keep ;) ).
But my problem is something else. Notice that when you click on the slider that will overlap the main content, the url changes. That's what I would like to achieve and I don't know if both divs (main content and overlapping content) are on the same page and the url is being changed using some js; or if the overlapping div is, in fact loaded from an external source.
In my case, I would like to load from an external page. Say, for instance, someurl.com and someurl.com/blog. The aim is, having both preloaded (I guess) to slide one on top of the other.
Is this even possible? I would like to think it is. I can follow js and jQuery instructions more or less, but need some guidance as to where to start off searching info, specifically on the loading content from some other url part.
Any tip is appreciated.
Kind regards, Bea.
Does anyone know of a jQuery content slider (not just an image slider) that allows you to specify a grid of elements?
As an example, this is the sort of grid that I'm after:
http://cl.ly/image/0O213C1n2b0s
You can see that it's a 2x2 grid. With the controls, when someone clicks on a 'next' link, it should scroll to show the next 4 elements. I'd like to be able to have multiple instances on a page, each having different grids (I may be 3x2, 2x2, 4x1 on the same page)
Also, as an added caveat, I need this to be responsive.
First question is; does anyone know of a solution that already exists which would fit my requirements? If not, that leads to my second question; would anyone like to help me write such a thing? I'm relatively savvy with javascript (more specifically jQuery if I'm being absolutely honest) but by no means an expert.
I've done a fair amount of googling, but came up short. Hopefully someone is way ahead of me and has already written something along these lines.
What say you, Internet?
Have you seen this:

I need some help regarding tabs.
We are building a intranet portal for our clients, where they will be able to create business cards and more. But we've come to a halt because of problems with tabs.
We need to have a approx 1-4 steps process in tabs. 1 step is to select a business card template. When the template is chosen the next step would be to fill it out.
However each template has different kinds of input fields making the height of the step 2 tab variable.
We've tried using the tabs from Jquery UI, but only the first step is working, since the next step on some templates will be cut off, because of the height.
What is the best way around this problem?
I've used JQuery tabs a lot, and never seen this problem. AFAIK, there is nothing about the tabs themselves that restricts the content that can be put inside them. I would try removing all the logic, html, additional js etc from your tabs, and making the content simple (a series of divs with a fixed height for example). I think you will see that the tabs simply open up to the full height of their contents. Then start adding your code back in until you find whatever it is that restricts the height of your tabs. BTW, I don't think it makes any difference whether they tabs are statically created or loaded via ajax either ...
Can't u also write some code like height() to fix the jquery ui thing? I think jquery ui is the best choice.
