I cannot understand why my Cufon is not working, All .js files load fine:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Company Name</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="includes/css/style.css?v=2" media="all">
<!-- Grab Google CDN's jQuery. fall back to local if necessary -->
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script>!window.jQuery && document.write(unescape('%3Cscript src="includes/js/jquery-1.6.min.js"%3E%3C/script%3E'))</script>
<script src="includes/js/cufon.js"></script>
<script src="includes/js/Springsteel_Lig_300.font.js"></script>
<script>
window.addEvent('domready',function() {
Cufon.replace('header h1');
});
</script>
<body>
<div id="container">
<header>
<h1>Company</h1>
<div id="logo">Home</div>
Try with changing:
<script>
window.addEvent('domready',function() {
Cufon.replace('header h1');
});
</script>
to just:
<script type="text/javascript">
Cufon.replace('header h1');
</script>
It works for me after such change (using Vegur.font.js font, tested on Opera 11 and Google Chrome 11).
Edit:
Works as well with Springsteel_Lig_300.font.js font. I just donloaded Springsteel Light font (springsteel-lig.otf) and used that site to generate in js format.

I am a beginner to javascript. I am currently learning it.

Javascript:
var number;
var costOne;
var totalCost;
number=5;
costOne=2;
totalCost=number*costOne;
var el=document.getElementById('cost');
el.textContent=totalCost;
Now I think that this should work, but its not working. The text of the <div id="cost"> remains same.
Please help.
Most likely you are trying to update the DOM even before it is loaded - you can make sure the javascript is executed after the DOM is loaded by keeping JS at the end of the body tag like below -
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Using Javascript</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css.css">
</head>
<body>
<h1>Elderflower</h1>
<div id="content">
<h2>Custom Signage</h2>
<div id="cost">Cost: $5 per tile</div>
</div>
<script>
var number;
var costOne;
var totalCost;
number=5;
costOne=2;
totalCost=number*costOne;
var el=document.getElementById('cost');
el.textContent=totalCost;
</scirpt>
</body>
</html>

I am very new to web development. I am trying to use jquery to show slider on the web-page. However, I am not able to see the silder on the web-page. I tried debugging the code via. firebug. However, I don't see any error over there. Can somebody please tell me on what I am missing possibly?
I am using Linux - Fedora core 16 and Firefox- 38.0.5 to run this code
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<script src= "jquery-2.1.4.min.js"> </script>
<script src= "js/jquery-ui.js"> </script>
<script src= "js/jqueryTutorial.js"> </script>
<title> "My Page"</title>
<head> "Hello Jquery"</head>
<body>
<div id="slider"> </div>
</body>
</html>
Here is the jqueryTutorial.js file.
(function() {
$("#slider").slider();
})();
There are no errors in the firebug console.
Here is the screen shot.
Finally, I did the following from the source - jquery slider
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>jQuery UI Slider - Default functionality</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.css">
<script src="//code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.js"></script>
<script src="//code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/resources/demos/style.css">
<script>
$(function() {
$( "#slider" ).slider();
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="slider"></div>
</body>
</html>
Now, I see the following error on the firebug.
ReferenceError: $ is not defined
$(function() {
index.html (line 11, col 2)
Try this:
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
(function() {
$("#slider").slider();
})();
});
EDITED:
Ok , the issue comes from the tags.
You wrote this:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<script src= "jquery-2.1.4.min.js"> </script>
<script src= "js/jquery-ui.js"> </script>
<script src= "js/jqueryTutorial.js"> </script>
<title> "My Page"</title>
<head> "Hello Jquery"</head>
<body>
<div id="slider"> </div>
</body>
</html>
And you HAVE to write this:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src= "jquery-2.1.4.min.js"> </script>
<script src= "js/jquery-ui.js"> </script>
<script src= "js/jqueryTutorial.js"> </script>
<title> "My Page"</title>
</head>
<body>
<div id="slider"> </div>
</body>
</html>
;-)
EDITED AGAIN
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>jQuery UI Slider - Default functionality</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.css">
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/resources/demos/style.css">
<script>
jQuery(function() {
$( "#slider" ).slider();
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="slider"></div>
</body>
</html>
Include your <script> tags before closing body tag </body>. Moreover you have some mistakes in your markup, like the <title> should be inside <head> tag( for heading use <h1> upto <h7> tags ). Like this:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>"My Page"</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>hello jQuery</h1>
<div id="slider"></div>
<!-- load scripts -->
<script src="jquery-2.1.4.min.js">
</script>
<script src="js/jquery-ui.js">
</script>
<script src="js/jqueryTutorial.js">
</script>
</body>
</html>
And your javascript will simply be:
$('#slider').slider();
if that doesn't works try:
$(document).ready( function () {
$('#slider').slider();
}
Because if you include them at beginning, whole HTML document will not be completely loaded at the time the scripts get executed, so the script won't be able to find elements.
And I don't think .slider() gives you what you want. I suggest you learn more first. Try www.codecademy.com
So I am working on a simple image cropping function using pre-built Yahoo UI. However, it seems the cropping box or whatever it is called lies under the image, or maybe it's just transparent.
Here is my code, you can just copy and paste to inspect.

Here is the URL to the demo Yahoo provides

Please help me. Thanks in advance!
This is the code that was working for me

When I removed the last script ie
<script>
(function() {
var Dom = YAHOO.util.Dom,
Event = YAHOO.util.Event;
var crop = new YAHOO.widget.ImageCropper('yui_img');
})();
</script>
This code then the box dissappeared please check with your code. Maybe the javascript is essential or maybe ur missing some thing else. Better to keep all the js and css and try debugging removing one by one. You will get to know the specific point. And my code is hopefully working please let me know if it isn't. :)
The html file is
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

</html>
and my script3.js file is
$(function(){
"use strict";
$('#checkOut').click(function(){
var time=2;
alert("The time is "+time+"!");
// more code
});
how am I linking it wrong?
when i used jfiddle to test my code, the alert works when i click the button. however, i'm using notepad++ and i'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I see two issues, and something else you should fix.
In the script3.js, you have a missing });. So it should be:
$(function(){
"use strict";
$('#checkOut').click(function(){
var time=2;
alert("The time is "+time+"!");
// more code
});
});
The title tag is not formatted correctly:
<title>My Website /title>
Needs to be:
<title>My Website </title>
EDIT: Example:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
<title>My Website </title>

I want to make a javascript file uploader. The location of css for this uploader is "~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.css" and the js location is "~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js" . I want to do the following:
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
<link href="~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
</head>
<body>
<div id="demo"></div>
<ul id="separate-list"></ul>
<script src="~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
function createUploader() {
var uploader = new qq.FileUploader({
element: document.getElementById('demo'),
listElement: document.getElementById('separate-list'),
action: '~/Scripts/fileuploader/do-nothing.htm'
});
}
window.onload = createUploader;
</script>
</body>
</html>
However, <link href="~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.css" and <script src="~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js" become http://localhost:1304/Administration/blue/en-gb/Entity/Index/~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js?_=1325540158292
and http://localhost:1304/Administration/blue/en-gb/Entity/Index/~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js?
How can I change this so that it does ~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js instead of http://localhost:1304/Administration/blue/en-gb/Entity/Index/~/Scripts/fileuploader/fileuploader.js
Why do you need to put that ~ symbol to there? If your html file (or php I don't know) are at the place where that you mean with that ~ symbol, deleting ~/ symbols will solve the problem.
