SlideToggle imperfections - javascript

My slideToggle is a little jumpy at the bottom of the slide transition. Could that be because there is a button there or something. Any way to make it smoother. Tried using easing but not very successful. Any suggestions
click on video setup to see for yourself
The site
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.drop').click(function() {
$(this).parent().next('li.drop_down').slideToggle();
return false;
});
});

Give your li.drop_down a fixed width. This should clear it up. I don't remember the exact reason for this, but I just tested it on your site, and it works.
Right now the computed width is 217px so try that.
.drop_down {
width: 217px;
}
EDIT: Looks like you have a .drop_down2 and a .drop_down3 as well (maybe more). You would need to do the same for those. I'd suggest assigning a common class for each.

Try storing the height of each item before animating it, and then re-apply that height to the element just before starting the hiding animation.
Here's an article I wrote how with an example of doing this:
http://www.pewpewlaser.com/articles/jquery-smooth-animation

Fixed width didn't work for me, but what did was adding a clearfix class to the animated element, since I had some floated elements inside.

Javascript Slide-In Onload

So I'm trying to have a div slide in on pageload. It has an id of "#crazyslide" and is absolutely positioned to the right -800px in the css.
So I used this code in the head:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#crazyslide").animate( { right: '0px' }, 2000 );
});
</script>
Shouldn't this work?
No, you can't hide it off the edge of the screen. Devices like mobiles will let people scroll past the edge and it will look bad.
I recommend using this example of hiding and showing it with javascript.
http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/tryit.asp?filename=tryjquery_hide_show
Yes it should. I just tested with your exact code, and it worked fine. There are ways to prevent a parent element from showing scroll bars for offscreen content.
Check to be sure your div is properly named: (console.log($("#crazyslide"));
Be sure a parent element's css isn't preventing the div from being
shown at all, such as a strange body width or something.
Be sure the div has content, and a set width.
*This turned out to be a load order issue where jquery was not yet defined when the animation code was called.

jQuery Sliding Animation Not Fully Disappearing

I'm using this code:
$('#container').animate({ height: '-=400px'}, 1000).fadeOut('fast');
The container is 400 pixels in height, the goal being to try make it shrink out into nothing, but at the end of the animation the div is still there, about 5 pixels in height, it doesn't fully collapse on itself as you'd expect with an empty div with no height value.
I've tried making it -=410px but the result is the same, it doesn't fully disappear - i've tried adding the fadeOut animation but it's a bit clunky. Does anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT: Found some stray padding which seemed to be causing the issue, now i'm having an issue with the border of the div disappearing afterwards.
I looked into the .animate() API for JQuery, and it looks like you're hardcoding the "toggle" target property. Try this:
$('#container').animate({ height: 'toggle'}, 1000).fadeOut('fast');

Jquery slider, slides doesnt go full width if parent is display: none

I"m making a script for a portfolio. when you click on one of the portfolio items a div will appear with the jquery onclick function like this:
$('#portfolioItem').click(function() {
$('#divThatWillApear').show();
This all works fine. I also downloaded a slider called glide.js. this slider also work fine.
But as soon as I combine my script and the slider togheter the slider is acting wierd.
I've created a jsfiddle : http://jsfiddle.net/skunheal/fzftX/2/
the slides dont scale to the full width of the slider. but when you rescale the window they do. when I remove the display none from my parent element (portfolioOverlay) it suddenly works all fine...
any one has an idea whats going wrong and how to fix it?
Hope to hear from anyone!
An easy fix would be to initialize the slider after clicking show, to fix this problem.
$('#show').click(function () {
$('#portfolioOverlay').show();
$('.slider').glide();
});
Demo Fiddle
Your .slider width is messing up as the width of the display:none; parent.
I "fixed" it by adding to your .slider
width: 100%;
to
width: 500px; // same as parent element, this means you are joining the width to the width of the parent however
Updated jsFiddle:
http://jsfiddle.net/cB3Pn/
As the portfolioItem is display:none on load it's size/position can not be calculated by your code. Removing the display:none CSS and adding the following to the bottom of your JavaScript will fix this as it will hide the portfolioItem once the JavaScript has run.
$('#portfolioOverlay').hide();
You could trigger the resize event yourself after showing the slider:
$('#show').click(function() {
$('#portfolioOverlay').show();
$(window).resize();
});

not the expected 'effect' when using jquery show/hide

I'm having an unexpected effect and some other bugs when trying to use show/hide with mouseover and mouseout.
What I was trying to do is have a box (div) and when you would mouse over it, another box would appear and slide to the right.
Here's the fiddle for it
http://jsfiddle.net/XtXGR/
Now there's two problems with it. One is the flickering and the other is that it appears by growing from the top-left corner and what I want it to do is appear from the left.
Any help would be greatly be appreciated. Thanks
I think I know what causes the flickering from the similar questions but I still need help with the other issue. Thanks!
Oh also just so you know the context in which this will be used is on a page with a table of items and each item would be the object in the fiddle link I posted above.
The main issue is that moving over a different child element of the container will trigger a mouseout and mouseover combination, which is why you see the element expanding and collapsing. IE circumvented this with the mouseenter and mouseleave events, which act exactly like the CSS :hover.
Speaking of which, the jQuery hover function has this feature too. You should use that instead of mouseover and mouseout.
According to the show API, you should use the slide effect to get what you want.
Your final code should look like this: http://jsfiddle.net/XtXGR/28/
A couple things:
If you want to do a fadein/out this would be better:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("div.item_container").hover(function() {
$("div.item_body").fadeIn(500);
}, function() {
$("div.item_body").fadeOut(500);
});
});

Also, you should probably float the div .item_body to the left..
Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/lucuma/XtXGR/33/
How about using CSS3 transitions instead?
See this: http://jsfiddle.net/EVDj6/2/
Something like this? Using slide will give you the slide from default left effect.
$(document).ready(function(){
$("div.item_container").on('hover',function(){
$("div.item_body").toggle('slide',500);
});
});
http://jsfiddle.net/XtXGR/25/
There were many issues in your code. The href's were invalid and the floating of the elements was not 100% correct. One of the main issues was that you had display:none in your CSS. Bring that dispay:none out and of the CSS and put it inline on the item you want to show/hide. When its default state is "hide" then you need to bring the display:none inline.
Look at this fiddle to get a better idea of how to go about this with a bit more valid syntax:
http://jsfiddle.net/fH3EC/1/
I made something fast, you can go crazy with it :) The animation is pretty smooth, I hope it's useful for you.

Animating a table with jQuery

I asked a question yesterday on here and got some awsome help, but I need more help concerning more or less the same, only a bit different.
This is my old thread.
So ye, I made this and the idea is that you can customize the table to see it the way you want. for now its possible to drag the columns to change the order and its possible to order the columns on alphabet or high/low. Since I got help here, its now also possible to hide the columns.
Now I want to make the hiding process a bit more smooth, since its hard to see if something is hidden after a click if you use no animation. I use .fadeOut(200); now, but when the fading is done the column just 'jumps' to fill the gap, is it possible to animate this in some sort?
Edit: After thinking some more, I thought that I could just loop a -1px width untill the element's width is 1px and then just hide it, but for some reason that wont work, the table doesnt respond to .width(xxx); or .css('width', 'xxx');. It does change the value, but the td keeps the same width.
This is somewhat of a workaround, and there might be a better solution, but here it is anyway:
Animate the opacity to 0.0. Fadeout does the same, but it also sets display:none after completely fading out. It is the display:none that causes the adjacent column to jump and fill in the gap.
Animating will cause your hidden div to remain there. Now that it is no longer visible, animate its width to 0. This will cause the adjacent div to smoothly take over its place.
Once width is 0, set display:none
Here's a working sample I whipped up. Adjust accordingly to animate width: http://jsfiddle.net/x7BEv/8/
Here's how the magic happens:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#button').click(function(){
$('#upper').animate({opacity:0.0},'slow').animate({height:'0px'},'slow',allDone);
});
});
function allDone()
{
$('#upper').hide();
}
I'm not sure how important the allDone() method is. You could probably do away with it.
you must use jqgrid
or just for sorting you can use tablesorter which is very easy to implement
