jQuery toggle changes element's width? I don't want it to - javascript

I currently have a table that has a width of 94%, and the following toggle set to it:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#moreinfo").hide();
$("#toggleinfo").click(function () {
$("#moreinfo").toggle('normal');
});
});
It toggles fine, but as soon as you toggle, the width goes really small and I have no idea why. If I remove the hide() it's the right width, but again as soon as I start toggling it, the width automatically resizes.
Just tried the following CSS too:
#moreinfo { width: 94% !IMPORTANT; }
Edit: it seems to completely remove any width applied through CSS when I toggle it
Edit2: Wrapping it inside another div works! Not ideal, but not a bad solution I guess.
Any way to stop this please?

The jQuery toggle() function sets your target element ('#moreinfo' in this case) to display: block. It's just a guess without seeing your CSS or HTML, but I'm picking that the table, when having its display property changed, is being positioned or laid out incorrectly.
You may be able to work around this by wrapping your moreinfo element in another div with display: inline or position: relative? But that's just a guess. Do different browsers show the same result?

Page breaks in SAPUI5

What is the best practice for creating specific page breaks in SAPUI5 and is it actually possible?
Classical CSS atributes page-break-after and page-break-beforedoesn't seem to work in my case. For example, I have two sap.m.VBox elements and I attached them a CSS class which specifies page-break-after: always !important;when printing, but nothing happens. If I add
* {overflow-x: visible !important; overflow-y: visible !important;} then it will break and continue to draw the content in next page if it doesn't fit in one page, but it doesn't work in IE.
I have tryed also adding an empty div element that would work as a page break indicator, but still CSS wouldn't do anything. I guess that's because everything in SAPUI5 is put into one content div.
You can solve this by adding an empty element in between.
If you want a break that is 200 pixels high, your page content can look like this:
return new sap.m.Page({
content:[
oVBox1,
sap.m.Panel({height: "200px", width: "100%}),
oVBox2
]
});
ofcourse you might want to set your panel background-color to transparent ;)
The "page-break-after" is ignored because the property display of SAPUI5 views is set to inline-block.
Simply override the CSS style for the corresponding class with a custom CSS and it should work:
.sapUiView {
display: block;
}

How to constrain rendered HTML code inside a div

I have a function that renders the HTML code from a textarea into a div of a certain size. The size of this div is determined when the page loads and is generally about 45% the width of the browser. I would like to know if there is any way to constrain what is rendered to not go out of the bounds of this div, but to instead add scrollbars if the rendered content exceeds the boundaries.
Basically, I'd like this div to behave like a browser window would when you render an HTML web page. Here is the code I have that does the rendering:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#showmeImg").click(function(){
$("#outputContainer").html($(myEditor.getValue()));
});
});
So when 'showmeImg' is clicked, the contents of 'myEditor' is rendered and place within the 'outputContainer' div tag. All I have for this div tag are basic styling like background color, width, and height.
You should be able to get that effect using CSS. If you are setting the width programatically (as your question seems to suggest), then all you would need to do is set the height and overflow styles to get the desired behavior. Something like this:
#outputContainer {
height: 300px;
overflow: auto;
}
If you want the scrollbars to always be there (regardless of whether or not scrolling is needed for the current content), use overflow: scroll;.
You should add the CSS Rule 'overflow:auto' to the containing div. If the content spills outside of the div, scroll bars will be added automatically.
Have you tried something like this?
#outputContainer {
ovwerflow-y: auto;
}
This will add a vertical scrollbar, when there is enough content inside your container.
There are many nice jQuery plugins for adding nicer scrollbars though :).
http://enscrollplugin.com/ for example.

Increase size of parent div as image gets bigger

My situation is the following: I have page that shows an image but sometimes it's too small, so I need to get the it bigger. I used CSS Transform to do that and works fine.
The problem is that the parent DIV's size does not increase, and there is space in the page for it to do so!
Using overflow on the parent does not help me because it crops the image or add a scroll bar. I need it to grow.
So, I managed to replicate a little what I am talking about here: http://jsfiddle.net/viniciuspaiva/7jJXQ/
When you click in the "Zoom" button, I want the div to grow and the pager below to get down. But I also want the page to load as it is, with the pager on top. Hope it's clear.
As you can see, I use bootstrap on my page. And the zoom button just adds a class to the image:
javascript:var img = $('img.center'); img.addClass('zoom');
Thanks!
Try doing it the other way. Have the image fit to the div, and resize the div instead.
Add this style to the image (assuming .myimg is the class).
.myimg {
display: block;
width: 100%;
}
Try placing this inside of your current div at the end of it before you close your current div. It will force the div to expand to contents.
<div style="clear: both;"></div>
So your div opens, the contents inside, then add the code above, then close the div.
Here's an example of Joseph the Dreamer's implementation. Check it out here. It only relies on setting display: block; and width: 100%;.

Hiding a <div> and showing a new one in the same spot?

Lets say I have 2 divs, one is hidden, the other is showing. When a button is clicked, I want to use the jQuery fade effect to fade out one div and fade in the hidden div.
So -
<div id="part1">Hello</div>
<div id="part2" style="display: none">Hello2!</div>
<button id="btn1">Click here!</button>
and the JS -
$("#btn1").on("click", function(){
$("#part1").fadeToggle();
$("#part2").fadeToggle();
});
Now, this works, but as you can imagine what happens is that it first hides the 1st div, then shows the second div, and then immediately takes the second div up to the place where the previous div was located.
What can I do about this? I want them to stay in the same position (something like they have here http://kenwheeler.github.io/slick/ in their fade demo.)
Thanks!
You can do it with jQuery. Fade out the first div and fade in the second one in the callback. Like this: http://jsfiddle.net/D2Cw9/
$(".one").fadeOut(500, function() {
$(".two").fadeIn(500, function() {
});
});
One solution would be using absolute positioning on both divs relative to their container.
#parts-container {
position: relative;
}
#part1, #part2 {
position: absolute;
left: 0;
top: 0;
}
Use css position absolute to set them to the same position.
At the time of writing, you have 4 answers that all seem to be correct solutions using CSS positioning. I noticed you have jQuery as a tag, so I thought I'd offer up a different solution.
Have you thought about not actually hiding the div, and replacing it with the other? For example, you could change the CSS class of the div with jQuery:
$('#part1').fadeOut(300, function() {
$('#part1').addClass('part2');
$('#part1').innerHTML('Hello2!');
$('#part1').fadeIn(300, function(){});
});
Of course you should use a synchronous fade to make sure the class change happens while the div is hidden.
It seems that a lot of people answered this question correctly. I would like to add that you can also keep the div and just set the css opacity to 0 using the jQuery UI color animation.
I believe this is yet another option.
Try adding position absolute to both of them and wrapping them in a relative div

scroll and position: fixed inside overflow: scroll div

I have a position: fixed div besides a div with long text inside a div with overflow: scroll. I want the text to scroll even if my cursor is hovering over the fixed div (which is the normal behavior when the window would be the scrolling element).
I made a fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/jM2Eh/1/
I basically want the text to scroll while scrolling hovering over the red box.
UPDATE: I am using Twitter bootstrap in this particular case and updated the fiddle accordingly.
If JavaScript is needed for that, that would also be ok.
UPDATE2: I also tried this solution, but that causes weird flickering effects:
http://jsfiddle.net/jM2Eh/16/
Have you tried using padding-left on your text node instead of using two columns?
http://jsfiddle.net/j5BLm/15/
.text {
padding-left: 50%;
}
Another possible solution is to use pointer-events: none if you don't care about IE:
