I'm new in React framework and I'm facing following issue: When I'm trying to call backend api after assigning some values, the api is called before the assigned values are updated in the state.
Let me show you the code to get a better understanding:

I tried many aproaches but still get the same result: The api is called before the assigned values are updated in the state.
How can I solve this so the api is called after the state has been updated?
Best not to use DOM functions directly, it's better to store the input value in some sort of state as the user is changing the value, then when it comes to submitting, the value is already available
try something like the following -

As a side note though, the issue you are running into is that setting state is async therefore calling setItem(x) does not set set the value immediately, it would be available in the next render, therefor your API function is grabbing the old value.
In react the state changes do not occur right after. The setState of react is async. It does this because it is an expensive operation and chooses to do many state updates at once to increase efficiency.
If you would like to call the API after the state has been changed , I would suggest adding a callback to the state change and executing the API in the callback function.
Use the useCallback() hook and add the state as a dependency array to execute on every state change.

Probably it is a classic issue with useState which is not updating.
So there is a tree with some checkboxes, some of them are already checked as they map some data from an endpoint.
The user has the possibility to check/uncheck them. There is a "cancel" button that should reset them to the original form.
Here is the code:

Just do the following, no need for ()=> the state will update inside the hook if called, plus change the constant it will cause confusion inside your code and protentional name clash later on, with the current state variable name, and also make sure your data are there and you are not injection empty array !!!! which could be the case as well !.

I have a component that renders a table with objects. This component shows a button that, when pressed, sends the parent a specific object. The parent must set it in the state to display some graphical stuff. The rendering is working correctly, what I don't understand is why I am getting an outdated value after setting the state correctly.
It's not a race condition, React is simply ignoring the updated value of a variable, even when it re-renders the component correctly.
A minimal example:

Even with solutions like useStateCallback the problem persists.
Is there a way to do this without having to use the awful useEffect which is not clear when reading the code? Because the logic of the system is "when this button is pressed, make a request to obtain the information", using the hook useEffect the logic becomes "when the value of currentID changes make a request", if at some point I want to change the state of that variable and perform another action that is not to obtain the data from the server then I will be in trouble.

I think this is an issue with the way Javascript closures work.
When you execute a function, it gets bundled with all the data that pertains to it and then gets executed.
The issue is that you call this:
setTimeout(() => {
getData();
}, 1500);
inside setAndRetrieveData(value).
Even though it's inside a setTimeout, the getData() function has been bundled with the information it needs (currentID) at that point in time, not when it actually runs. So it gets bundled with the currentId before the state update takes place
Unfortunately, I would recommend using useEffect. This is the best way to ensure you avoid issues like this and any potential race conditions. Hopefully someone else can provide a different approach!
when setAndRetrieveData is called it sets a state that leads to the component being rerendered to reflect the new state. When the timeout finishes The function getData was created in the previous render. And thus only has access to the state variable from the previous render. That now is undefined.
what you could try is using a useEffect hook that that listens to changes of
currentID.

I have been able to successfully get all of my other functions where I am doing the comparisons for if a user is a subscriber but where I am having an issue is updating the state value (e.g. true if they are subbed, false otherwise).
I found some good past questions on this specific topic such as:

but I just have not been able to get it working correctly. This is currently the closest I have been able to get to solving this problem.
Currently your code says that, when isSubscriber changes, it should check if the user is a subscriber and update the isSubscriber state... so it's a chicken and egg problem. It won't set isSubscriber until isSubscriber gets set.
I think you want to change }, [isSubscriber]); to }, []); so that that code executes when the component first loads (not when isSubscriber changes).
The useEffect hook will always run on mount regardless of if there is anything in its dependency array. This means that your useEffect will work as is, and will run onMount as well as when isSubscriber changes:

To verify this, you can check out this codesandbox example. The useEffect looks just like yours, and you will notice that isSubscriber is initially set to false, but is updated to true after 3 seconds.
There's still an adjustment you may want to make even though that part appears to work ok. With isSubscriber in the dependency array, the function in your useEffect will be called any time isSubscriber changes. This probably not what you want, since this function doesn't actually depend on isSubscriber, but actually sets isSubscriber. In this case, that means test_equality() will be run on initial mount and then one more time after it sets isSubscriber, which is unnecessary.
This blog post explains the useEffect dependency array really well.
You can fix this by removing isSubscriber from the dependency array, like this:

Since you mentioned the state value is not getting updated, there must be another issue going on in either get_customer_id() or customer_is_subscriber(). It would be good to double check and make sure the stripe api calls are working as expected.

I'm building a web page that uses fetch to search information and it shows it to the user.
I've decided to store that information in a state but for some reason it doesn't work the way I expected.
When the data arrives I use setText() and then I print both the 'text' and 'data' variables.
Only 'data' is printing something, 'text' doesn't show anything.
Anyone knows what can be the problem here?

In your example, setText is a function that queues another render of your function and updates the value that will be used for text in that and subsequent renders. It does not update the value of the text variable, which is a local variable.

Problem is that set state functions are asynchronous so you don't have the certainty that when you console log the value of the state it was already updated
you could do something like this inside your component
useEffect(() => {
what you execute here will already have the text value set
},[text])
I have a function inside of my functional component that uses a value saved in state. However, when it is called, it has the original value in state, not the updated value. When I look at my component in Chrome React Dev Tools, I see that the updated value is stored in state. Aren't functions supposed to get the latest state value in React? I didn't think I'd have to wrap my functions in a useEffect every time some value in state they depend on changes. Why is this happening?

UPDATE: I figured out the issue. The sendClick function is being used inside an object that I have in state. When that object is created, it creates a version of the sendClick function based on the state at that time. I realized I needed to refactor my code so that the function is not stored within my object in state so that the function will always have the latest state values.

You have got into a trap that all developers new to React fall into.

The second argument you pass to the useEffect is called as Dependencies. Meaning if your useEffect is dependent on any state or any variable or function, Ii should be pass as the second argument inside the []. By now you should have got the answer.
Clearly, your useEffect is dependent on template. You should pass that inside the [].
So the code will be : -

setTemplate(template)); // Mentioned as getTemplate(template));
}
},[template]);
Now React will automatically run the function every time the value of template changes therefore, updates template.
