How to know the selected datatable rows before form submit - javascript

I have the following Datatable: LIVE DATATABLES
Before I click a button to submit the form, I would like to know the ids of the selected rows.
What I've tried:
$( "#testrow" ).click(function() {
console.log(DT4.rows().ids());
});
I used rows().ids() method (official datatables api documentation)
and I expected to get an array or something similar with the index numbers of the selected rows, but instead I am getting this:
This method does not read the DOM id for the tr so I am wondering which is the best way to know which row was selected (from the DOM) before submitting a form.

You can try like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
$('#example tbody').on( 'click', 'tr', function () {
$(this).toggleClass('selected');
} );
$('#button').click( function () {
let data = table.rows('.selected').data()
console.log(data)
} );
});

How to filter rows by id and redraw datatable

I'd like to filter the datatable rows by an array of ids and redraw the filtered table. However, I could not get it to work by any combination of rows(...).invalidate().data().draw(...).
Here is a toy example
The JS snippet to show the rows 1, 4, and 10:
$(document).ready( function () {
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
$('#getData').on('click', function() {
console.log("hey");
table.rows([0, 3, 9]).draw();
})
} );
My expected output would be to see only those 3 rows but I still see the full table.
I was also thinking about an ID column that I wouldn't show but could use for searching purposes only by column(0).search(id_column in ids)
Use table.data() to get the current data.
Apply a custom filter() to get the desired rows.
Re-draw the data rows:
Updated Snippet:
$(document).ready( function () {
// Tabel
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
// On button click
$('#getData').on('click', function() {
// ALlowed id's
const myids = [ 1, 2, 3, 25 ];
// Filter existing rows
const filteted = table.data().filter((item, index) => myids.includes(index));
// Update data
table.clear();
table.rows.add(filteted).draw();
})
} );

If you want to filter your data, then you can use column().search() to find the rows with your data:
$(document).ready( function () {
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
$('#getData').on('click', function() {
table.column(2).search('London').draw();
})
} );
Here, the code would search all rows with data "London" in the second column and re-draw the table.
To filter based on row index, you can add a custom filter and filter your data table based on that.
var ids = [];
$.fn.dataTable.ext.search.push(
function( settings, data, dataIndex ) {
if ($.inArray(dataIndex, ids) > -1) {
return false;
}
else {
return true;
}
}
);
$(document).ready( function () {
var table = $('#example').DataTable(); // The table draws with full data.
// Update your array of indexes. This can be as a result of an ajax query or your custom logic. So next time the button is clicked, table would be redrawn with those rows excluded.
ids = [0,1,2,3];
$('#getData').on('click', function() {
table.draw();
});
} );
In the above code, you can update your array ids before redraw (in your case before the button is clicked).

DataTables: get source data for entire row matching single column criteria

How can I get the whole row data of the column that the user input for filter in datatables? The user will input the filter and I want the system to search for it without changing the row data of table.
I tried this one
var rowData = $('#table').DataTable().column(2).data().filter(function(value,index){
return value == $('input[name=filter]').val() ? true:false;
}).toArray();
but this will just get the column(2) value if its exist. I want to get all the data in that row. I'm searching only the column(2) but I want to get all the column data or that row where the filter result.
I already tried this
var rowData = $('#table').DataTable().column(2).search($('input[name=filter]').val()).row({search: 'applied'}).data();
But this will change the UI table which is I don't want to happen. I only need the data of the whole row.
If you don't need to trigger DataTables features like filtering or selection, you may simply retrieve entire table's source dataset and filter that by your column(s) of interrest (suppose, you have your datatables object assigned to the variable dataTable and you want to filter your data by source-object property item):
const matchingRows = dataTable
.data()
.toArray()
.filter(row => row.item.toLowerCase().includes($('#searchbar').val().toLowerCase()));
console.log(matchingRows);
The complete demo you might find below:
//source data
const srcData = [
{id: 1, item: 'apple', cat: 'fruit'},
{id: 2, item: 'carrot', cat: 'vegie'},
{id: 3, item: 'strawberry', cat: 'berry'}
];
//datatables initialization
const dataTable = $('table').DataTable({
dom: 't',
data: srcData,
columns: ['id', 'item', 'cat'].map(header => ({title: header, data: header}))
});
//search handler
$('#logrow').on('click', () => {
//retrieve source dataset and filter by
//column of interrest includes search
//string (case insensitive)
const matchingRows = dataTable
.data()
.toArray()
.filter(row => row.item.toLowerCase().includes($('#searchbar').val().toLowerCase()));
console.log(matchingRows);
});

I already solved it! Thanks for all the help.
This is the code that solved it.
var indexes = $('#table').DataTable().rows().indexes().filter(function(value,index){
return $('input[name=filter]').val() == $('#table').DataTable().row(value).data()[2];
});
var rowData = $('#table').DataTable().rows(indexes).data().toArray();

Getting the initialisation object from DataTables

With my previous question on tables - Array to Object with Values in a Range, I have a question. The problem with the previous approach is I have been doing the stuff in normal HTML Tables, and the implementation here is in DataTables. So I thought of taking this approach of:
Kill the DataTables.
Apply my class addition.
Re-Initialise the DataTables.
In order for me to do this, I need to have the parameters with which the DataTables are initialised. To explain this with an example, let's say I have a DataTable instance, and I kill it, do something and now I need the original object like below:
{
"pagination": false,
"searching": false
}
Consider the following snippet:
$(function() {
$("#example").DataTable({
"paging": false,
"searching": false
});
});
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://cdn.datatables.net/v/bs-3.3.7/jq-2.2.4/dt-1.10.15/datatables.min.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://cdn.datatables.net/v/bs-3.3.7/jq-2.2.4/dt-1.10.15/datatables.min.js"></script>

So when I kill the DT and do something, I need to find the same object again. Is it possible? I am happy to clarify if it is not clear.
From the manual of DataTable().init(), it does have an option. You need to use:
$("#example").DataTable().init();
Although, this will not give you the exact initialisation object that you have used it before you initialised it, at least you can get to make the same DataTable configuration as how it was before it was killed. A snippet to demonstrate the same is as follows:
$(function() {
$("#example").DataTable({
"paging": false,
"searching": false
});
var config = $("#example").DataTable().init();
$("#example").DataTable().destroy();
console.log(config);
});

I had written something similar in my blogpost - Getting the Initialisation Parameters for DataTables, now updated with the link to this question too. Hope this helps.

jQuery DataTable : Individual column searching on table header

I have followed the steps on Individual column searching (text inputs) and Individual column searching (select inputs) to use multiple filters on jQuery DataTable and there are multiple filters on the footer. On the other hand, I want to move these filters to the header of the DataTable, but cannot align them horizontally as displayed on the image below. There are some examples as Custom filtering - range search, but they are not aligned as well. Is it possible to do this?
$(document).ready(function() {
// Setup - add a text input to each footer cell
$('#example tfoot th').each( function () {
var title = $(this).text();
$(this).html( '<input type="text" placeholder="Search '+title+'" />' );
} );
// DataTable
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
// Apply the search
table.columns().every( function () {
var that = this;
$( 'input', this.footer() ).on( 'keyup change', function () {
if ( that.search() !== this.value ) {
that
.search( this.value )
.draw();
}
} );
} );
} );
Here solution to your problem please add necessary things datatable configuration.
Column filter is moved from footer to table header by using CSS, i.e. just by using
<style>
tfoot {
display: table-header-group;
}
</style>
https://jsfiddle.net/dipakthoke07/ehhfsrfq/2/
Hope this help you.
this can be achived by css.
$(document).ready(function() {
// Setup - add a text input to each footer cell
$('#example tfoot th').each( function () {
var title = $(this).text();
$(this).html( '<input type="text" placeholder="'+title+' Search" />' );
} );
// DataTable
var table = $('#example').DataTable({
"paging": false,
"info": false,
"scrollY": 200,
"scrollX": true
});
// Apply the search
table.columns().every( function () {
var that = this;
$( 'input', this.footer() ).on( 'keyup change', function () {
if ( that.search() !== this.value ) {
that
.search( this.value )
.draw();
}
} );
} );
} );

Here solution for individual column search in data Table.
it also use for multiple row value search using regex :
$('#' + tableId + ' thead tr').clone(true).appendTo('#' + tableId + ' thead');
$('#' + tableId + ' thead tr:eq(1) th').each(function (i) { // Creating Clone Header for Filter TextBox
var title = $(this).text();
if (excludeTitle.indexOf(title.trim()) == -1) { // check table column header to add filter textBox
$(this).html('<input type="text" id="col' + i + '_filter" class="ClearFilters" placeholder="Search ' + title + '" />');
$('input', this).on('keyup change', function () {
if (table.column(i).search() !== this.value) {
var sp1 = this.value;
var regex_check = null;
try { regex_check = new RegExp(sp1);}
catch (error) { alert('Search parameter is not in correct format.'); return false; }
table.column(i).search(sp1, true).draw();
}
});
}
else {
$(this).html('');
}
});
You may try this DataTables plug-in, looks like it fits to the purpose, though interface is somewhat different from what you required.
// Setup - add a text input to each footer cell
$('#example thead th').each( function () {
var title = $(this).text();
$(this).html( '<input type="text" placeholder="Search '+title+'" />' );
} );
// DataTable
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
// Apply the search
table.columns().every( function () {
var that = this;
$( 'input', this.header() ).on( 'keyup change clear', function () {
if ( that.search() !== this.value ) {
that
.search( this.value )
.draw();
}
} );
} );
In your code use this.header() instead of this.footer()
like:
$( 'input', this.header() ).on( 'keyup change', function () {
// your code
});
Hope it will work for you.
$(document).ready(function() {
// Setup - add a text input to each footer cell
var table = $('#example').DataTable( {
orderCellsTop: true,
fixedHeader: true
} );;
$("#example thead tr td").each( function ( i ) {
var select = $('<select><option value=""></option></select>')
.appendTo( $(this).empty() )
.on( 'change', function () {
table.column( i )
.search( $(this).val() )
.draw();
} );
table.column( i ).data().unique().sort().each( function ( d, j ) {
select.append( '<option value="'+d+'">'+d+'</option>' )
} );
});
} );
As per the other two solutions, I wanted to add more extra things to it.
You are able to hide the search box for some of the columns.
const searchBoxHide = ['Start date', 'Position'];
$('#example tfoot th').each( function () {
if ($.inArray(this.innerText, searchBoxHide) == -1) {
var title = $(this).text();
$(this).html( '<input type="text" placeholder="'+title+' Search" />' );
}
} );

Datatables export buttons not showing,

I want to export the Data from data table, I've tried everything I could, I've read All the questions and answers of stackoverflow and the documentation about those buttons issues till the google's second page,
I'm sure I've referenced all The required javascript's cdn and CSS as required, No error in console, But still The export buttons are not showing, Here is how I initialized DataTable,
table.DataTable({
dom: 'Bfrtip',
buttons: [
'copy', 'csv', 'excel', 'pdf', 'print'
],
"columnDefs": [{
"defaultContent": "-",
"targets": "_all"
}],
bFilter: false, bInfo: false,
"bDestroy": true
});
All the functions of Datatable that were required are working fine except the export buttons not showing up, My last hope is left on this question, Please help me.
For everyone that searching for a solution to show buttons to export to Excel spreadsheet or PDF or even a Print View button when installing dataTables through bower.
You must install jszip, pdfmake, datatables, datatables-buttons, datatables-responsive
bower install Stuk/jszip pdfmake datatables datatables-buttons datatables-responsive
or update your bower.json to
"dependencies": {
"jszip": "~2.5.0",
"pdfmake": "0.1.18",
"datatables": "~1.1.10",
"datatables-buttons": "~1.2.4",
"datatables-responsive": "~2.1.1"
}
and run bower update
In you HTML file put theses lines (change the path for your project)
<!-- DataTables-CSS -->
<link href="bower_components/datatables/media/css/dataTables.bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet">
<!-- DataTables JS -->
<script src="bower_components/jszip/dist/jszip.min.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/pdfmake/build/pdfmake.min.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/datatables/media/js/jquery.dataTables.min.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/datatables/media/js/dataTables.bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/datatables-buttons/js/dataTables.buttons.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/datatables-buttons/js/buttons.bootstrap.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/datatables-buttons/js/buttons.html5.js"></script>
<script src="bower_components/datatables-buttons/js/buttons.print.js"></script>
Call the DataTables with
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#my-table').DataTable({
dom: "Bfrtip",
buttons: ["excel","pdf","print","excelHtml5","pdfHtml5"]
});
} );
Here's the fiddle to watch working or try the Code Snippet above
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#example').DataTable({
dom: "Bfrtip",
buttons: [
"excel",
"pdf",
{extent: "print", text: "<span class='glyphicon glyphicon-print'></span> Print"},
{extent: "excelHtml5", text: "<span class='glyphicon glyphicon-th-list'></span> Excel HTML5 Export"},
{extent: "pdfHtml5", text: "<span class='glyphicon glyphicon-save'></span> PDF HTML5 Export", title: "Filename"}
]
});
} );

</table>
I've hardly managed to find out the real issue, That each of the <th> element of <thead> inside <table> was not necessarily shown. Some of them were hidden with .hide() function of jquery.
I've exported the data as it is, But every hidden <th> were exported, So I guessed the <tr> of <tbody> should match the <th> of <thead>.
How did I fix this ?
We should be always aware of matching <th> and <tr> with the same properties and attributes, Like if <th> is hidden then relevant <tr> tag also should have the proper style="display:none" attribute. Avoid mismatching the header and data.
