d3.js graph overflow from screen - javascript

I try the neo4j movie example in spring boot.( source code : https://github.com/neo4j-examples/movies-java-spring-data-neo4j)
Example screenshot is at http://my-neo4j-movies-app.herokuapp.com/
I draw graph every page load and clear and redraw in every movie search operation according to new data.
But the graph overflows from screen
or I pressed mouse down and dragged the graph to new position. when I released the button then graph came back to old position.
How can i specify the limit in the screen for graph?
Or when i press mouse down button how can graph keep this position?
Here my js;
$(document).ready(function(){
var margin = {
top: 20,
right: 120,
bottom: 20,
left: 120
},
width = 1000 - margin.right - margin.left,
height = 1000 - margin.top - margin.bottom;
var svg = d3.select("#graph").append("svg")
.attr("width", '100%')
.attr("height", '100%')
.attr('viewBox','0 0'+' '+Math.min(width,height)+' '+Math.min(width,height))
.attr('preserveAspectRatio','xMinYMin')
.append("g")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + Math.min(width,height) / 2 + "," + Math.min(width,height) / 2 + ")")
.attr("pointer-events", "all");
});
$(function () {
function search() {
//do something
//...

return false;
}
function drawGraph() {
var query=$("#search").find("input[name=search]").val();
d3.selectAll("svg > *").remove();//clear old graph
var width = 1000, height = 1000;
var force = d3.layout.force()

var svg = d3.select("#graph").selectAll("svg");

Make responsive D3 Hierarchical bar chart and show tooltip

Hi I want to make the D3 chart as Responsive and show tool-tip on the Hierarchical bar chart.
The following code is used to responsive for my chart but this not is not working
window.onresize = function () {
debugger;
d3.select('svg>g').remove();
down(d,i);
bar(d);
up(d);
svg.select(".background")
.datum(d)
.transition()
.duration(end);
d.index = i;
down(root, 1000);
}
can any one tell me your suggestions.

To make d3 chart responsive just redraw the chart on browser resize:
d3.select(window).on('resize', function() {
_this.redrawGraph(); //your function that draws the graph
});

D3 force layout create strange line and black rectangle when dragging

I have a force graph with simple nodes and link. Each node is a svg file 500x500.
I implemented zoom and dragging.
When clicked on a node, that node
become fixed while other is released
The problem is there are weird popping line and black shape if I drag a node and then panning around.
I do not know how to put it in words so I record this video. I used Firefox:

What settings to choose for force directed graph layout in d3

I am visualising a graph of relationships between people with d3. All nodes are connected to a single central node, and then have relationships with other nodes. I've got the basics working, but I'm struggling to work out how to set the parameters like linkDistance, linkStrength, gravity and charge.
Each edge has a rating from 0-5, which I'm then using to compute linkDistance using an inverse linear scale. The main problem is getting the relationships to be represented properly. The central node seems to be much further away than any other node, even though it has the shortest linkDistance with some other nodes. I'm also finding it difficult to find the right settings to get nodes to be an appropriate distance apart.
var h = 500, w = 1000
var color = d3.scale.category20()
var svg = d3.select("body")
.append("svg")
.attr({ height: h, width: w })
queue()
.defer(d3.json, "nodes.json")
.defer(d3.json, "links.json")
.await(makeDiag);
function makeDiag(error, nodes, links, table) {
links = links.filter(function(link) {
if (link.value) return true
})
var scale = d3.scale.linear().domain([0,5]).range([20,0])
var edges = svg.selectAll("line")

Adding link to d3js force layout cause bad data in nodes

I am working on a d3js side project where I am using the force layout to show nodes and lines to represent a graph. I have laid out the code such that the graph can be dynamically updated. I am doing this by:
Clearing force.nodes() then force.links()
Pushing all the nodes I want to add to force.nodes()
Updating the graph (join, enter, update, exit)
Pushing all the links I want with references to the nodes in force.nodes() to force.links
Updating the graph (join, enter, update, exit)
This works as long as I only have nodes to display, but as soon as I attempt to push a link to force.links then all hell breaks loose and the two nodes end up hiding in the top left corner.
Looking at the DOM I can see the following:
As you can see, the transform/translate parameters contain NaN values. So something blew up in my face but after two days of bug hunting I suspect that I am missing something here and need to take a cold shower.
I have stripped down my code to the smallest set that can reproduce the error. Please note from it that the nodes display fine until a link is pushed into force.links. No links are being drawn, only nodes, but the act of pushing a link where it belongs is disrupting the data in the nodes. This way of updating a graph should work as per the examples I have seen.

Set the entry of a node in force layout

I have a force layout built using d3.js with nodes entering at interval of 15 seconds. When the nodes enter, they enter from any random direction before settling in the center. I want the node to enter always from left top (0,0) and then go to the center to settle.
that.force = d3.layout.force()
.charge(-8.6)
.linkDistance(2)
.size([600, 600]);
that.svg = d3.select(that.selector).append("svg")
.attr("width", that.width)
.attr("height", that.height);
d3.json("data/tweets.json", function(error, graph) {
that.graph = graph;
setInterval(function () {
d3.json("data/tweets.json", function(error, graph) {
that.graph = graph;
that.render();
});
},15000);
that.force
.nodes(that.graph.nodes)
.links(that.graph.links)
.start(0);
that.nodes = that.svg.selectAll("g")
.data(that.graph.nodes)
.enter()
.append("g")
.call(that.force.drag);
that.nodes
.append("rect")
.attr("class", "node")
.attr("width", that.rectw)
.attr("height", that.recth)
.style("fill","white")
.style("stroke", function(d) { return d.COLOR; })
.style("stroke-width", "1px")
that.nodes.append("title")
.text(function(d) { return d.SCREEN_NAME; });
that.nodes.append("image")
.attr("class", "node-image")
.attr("transform", "translate(1,1)")
.attr("xlink:href", function(d) { return "img/"+d.PROFILE_PIC;})
.attr("height", that.rectw-2 + "px")
.attr("width", that.recth-2 + "px");
that.link = that.svg.selectAll(".link")
.data(that.graph.links)
.enter()
.append("line")
.attr("class", "link")
.style("stroke-width", function(d) { return Math.sqrt(d.value); });
that.force.on("tick", function() {
that.link.attr("x1", function(d) { return d.source.x; })
.attr("y1", function(d) { return d.source.y; })
.attr("x2", function(d) { return d.target.x; })
.attr("y2", function(d) { return d.target.y; });
that.nodes.attr("transform", function(d) {
return "translate("+d.x+","+d.y+")";
})
});
});
Any suggestion will be helpful.
Thanks.
You can pre-set the position of the nodes before giving them to the force layout by setting the x and y attributes of the data. So in your case, all you need to do is initialise x and y of all nodes to 0.
