Button being sent automatically? - javascript

I need this button to be automatically "pressed" when entering the site, or after X seconds.
<button id='settingsTab' class='all'>||</button>
<div id='settingsContainer'>
<div id='channelInput' style='position:absolute;top:15px;font-size:0;width:330px;'>
<input type="text" id="channel" style='width:215px;' name="channel" value='sodapoppin'>
<button id='join'>Join</button>
</div>
</div>
Is this possible, having the "join" button being sent by just entering the site?
Also, im pretty new to this!

Is this possible, having the "join" button being sent by just entering the site?
yes it is possible.
You will have to use the setTimeout function of javascript or Jquery to achieve this. Also wrap your code in a document ready function so that it executes only when the document has been fully loaded. Make sure to put all your javascript/jquery code within a script tag.
Here is a sample code (in Jquery):
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
setTimeout(function(){ $("button#join").click(); }, 2000); /* after 2 seconds */
});
</script>

Automatically click using onload?

How can I automatically click on an object using onload() with HTML.
Here's the button I would like to be automatically clicked:
<input type="button" value="{$LANG.checkout} »" class="checkout" onclick="addtocart();" />
What I would like to happen is for the button to be clicked automatically; as soon as a certain div is loaded. I know it's possible to do with Javascript, but is there any way to do it without javascript? If javascript is the only way I am more than open to it!
As a comment says, is not need to 'trigger a click automatically', just add the functionality in a script tag (or even better, in a separate file):
HTML
<input type="button" value="{$LANG.checkout} »" class="checkout" />
JS
<script>
addToCart();
function addToCart(){
//your code here...
};
</script>
Include this tag before the tag </body> (where body finish) and it will be execute when all your HTML (DOM) be ready.

How to create an HTML button that show more text same page

I'm working with html and javascript. My problems is, in one webpage a show a plot and a few button. When the user press any of this button I need show 3 or 4 options but in the same page without switching pages.
Below is my code
<form action="MyPage">
<button type="submit" value="More Options">
</form>
redirect to an other page.What I can do?
First of all, get rid of type="submit". That's what's causing the page to do stuff you don't want. The second thing is to add an onclick handler. It should return false to avoid behavior like "submit". The variable 'this' will pass the button to your function, which you might need in that code. Then fill in the body of addMoreStuff() with your code to, well, add more stuff!
<form action="MyPage">
<button onclick="addMoreStuff(this); return false; ">More Options</button>
</form>
<script type="text/javascript">
function addMoreStuff(button) {
/* your code here */
}
</script>
Drop the form (use the button alone), and look into jQuery. It's extremely easy to use, and it'll help you quickly build code your application.
HTML
<button type="submit" value="More Options" id="more">
JavaScript (jQuery)
// run "add_options" when someone clicks on the button
jQuery('button#more').on('click', add_options)
function add_options() {
//code here to add more options
}

Executing Commands Javascript

I want to execute a command by the click of a button, and not when the page loads.
function hey() {
alert('bla');
}
Do I add something to the code above or to the button?
<input type="button" value="Click Me" onclick="hey()" />
Have you taken the time to type in your question into the magical Google box yet? Surely you'll see something like this:
<input type="button" value="Click me, now" onclick="hey()" />
Say you have the function that alerts a window to the user.
<script type="text/javascript">
function showMe() {
alert('You clicked on the button');
}
</script>
<button onclick="showMe()">Button</button>
This will make sure that the function is only called when the button is clicked upon and not when the page is loaded.
Okay, so you have a code that should work for alerting something on the click of a button. But you state that the code is running on page load. You have to check you code, looking for:
An onload attribute on the body tag, something like <body onload="hey()">
A call to hey somewhere else on your js code. Look for hey().
Maybe a reference to the button followed by a call to .click()
There is something else on your code causing the function to be called, you'll have to scan your code to find out what it is.

Can an onsubmit event insert an image into the page before the page submits?

Can an onsubmit event insert an image into the page before the page submits/transfers control to the next page?
I am using classic asp.
Of course. The function resolves before the form is submitted.
(Although… while an img element may be inserted into the page, it might not load before the browser has gone to the next one, and even if it does, the user might not have time to see it clearly)
Yes . You can insert the HTML code (through javascript):
<img src="imgsrc">
But it takes a little time for loading the image. The form send the user to another page in new window or in the same window? Why would you want to insert an image in the current window if the page will be replaced with the new one?
Yes you can do this. It would be easier (for me to write) if you used jquery:
html:
<form id="myForm" action="">
<input type="text" id="someId" />
<input type="submit" id="submit" value="submit" />
</form>
and then JavaScript would be:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#myForm").submit(function() {
$(this).append('<img src="someImage.jpg" alt="" />');
});
});
http://jsfiddle.net/rYUbQ/
But like others have said it might not be loaded and displayed before the form submits so you might want to instead look in to preloading the image and then just setting it to visible before the page submits.

How to make a button redirect to another page using jQuery or just Javascript

I am making a prototype and I want the search button to link to a sample search results page.
How do I make a button redirect to another page when it is clicked using jQuery or plain JS.
is this what you mean?
$('button selector').click(function(){
window.location.href='the_link_to_go_to.html';
})
$('#someButton').click(function() {
window.location.href = '/some/new/page';
return false;
});
Without script:
<form action="where-you-want-to-go"><input type="submit"></form>
Better yet, since you are just going somewhere, present the user with the standard interface for "just going somewhere":
ta da
Although, the context sounds like "Simulate a normal search where the user submits a form", in which case the first option is the way to go.
In your html, you can add data attribute to your button:
<button type="submit" class="mybtn" data-target="/search.html">Search</button>
Then you can use jQuery to change the url:
$('.mybtn').on('click', function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
var url = $(this).data('target');
location.replace(url);
});
Hope this helps
With simple Javascript:
<input type="button" onclick="window.location = 'path-here';">
You can use:
location.href = "newpage.html"
in the button's onclick event.
No need for javascript, just wrap it in a link
<button type="button">button</button>
This should work ..
$('#buttonID').click(function(){ window.location = 'new url'});
You can use window.location
window.location="/newpage.php";
Or you can just make the form that the search button is in have a action of the page you want.
this is the FASTEST (most readable, least complicated) way to do it, Owens works but it's not legal HTML, technically this answer is not jQuery (but since jQuery is a pre-prepared pseudocode - reinterpreted on the client platform as native JavaScript - there really is no such thing as jQuery anyway)
<button onclick="window.location.href='http://www.google.com';">Google</button>
You can use this simple JavaScript code to make search button to link to a sample search results page. Here I have redirected to '/search' of my home page, If you want to search from Google search engine, You can use "https://www.google.com/search" in form action.
<form action="/search"> Enter your search text:
<input type="text" id="searchtext" name="q">
<input onclick="myFunction()" type="submit" value="Search It" />
</form>
<script> function myFunction()
{
var search = document.getElementById("searchtext").value;
window.location = '/search?q='+search;
}
</script>
From YT 2012 code.
<button href="/signin" onclick=";window.location.href=this.getAttribute('href');return false;">Sign In</button>
Use a link and style it like a button:
Click this button
And in Rails 3 with CoffeeScript using unobtrusive JavaScript (UJS):
Add to assets/javascripts/my_controller.js.coffee:
$ ->
$('#field_name').click ->
window.location.href = 'new_url'
which reads: when the document.ready event has fired, add an onclick event to a DOM object whose ID is field_name which executes the javascript window.location.href='new_url';
There are a lot of questions here about client side redirect, and I can't spout off on most of them…this one is an exception.
Redirection is not supposed to come from the client…it is supposed to come from the server. If you have no control over the server, you can certainly use Javascript to choose another URL to go to, but…that is not redirection. Redirection is done with 300 status codes at the server, or by plying the META tag in HTML.
