Ok, this seems to be a easy question but I'm not able to get it.
I have index.php and find.php in my project.
In index.php, I'm showing results of list-group items as follows
<div id="showDetails">
</div>
<div id="showList">
//All my list-group items are listed here
</div>
My Ajax returning the list-group as follows
function funcReadRecord() {
var readrecord1 = "readrecord1";
var sometext = $('#SNOW_INC').val();
$.ajax({
url : "find.php",
type : 'post' ,
data : { readrecord1 : readrecord1,
sometext : sometext } ,
success : function(data, status){
$('#showList').html(data);
}
});
}
Now, I'm returning the values as a HTML link so it looks like this
<div id="showList">
data 1
data 2
data 3
</div>
What I want is when I click data 1 link, I want to show showDetails div with data 1 populated. Then when I click data 2 link, it changes to data 2 in showDetails.
How do I do that?
Probably the information I've provided is not enough but feel free to ask and I'll provide more.
The simplest solution would be to add a click handler to each item that calls a function, passing in the id of the item you want to display.
Within that function, fetch the data for the given item and show it.
function showData(which) {
console.log(`fetch data ${which} here and show it in the data div.`);
document.getElementById('showData').innerHTML = `show data ${which}`
return false; // prevents navigation on the clicked link
}
<div id="showList">
<a onclick="showData(1)" href="#">data 1</a>
<a onclick="showData(2)" href="#">data 2</a>
<a onclick="showData(3)" href="#">data 3</a>
</div>
<div id="showData"></div>
I am trying to output an estimated time based off the number of items (people) within my database (this is a wait list). Currently I save a value in the quick form called countNumber. This is just set to 1 everytime. I then get the count of all the items by finding the all items that have countNumber = 1 (all of them). I then try updating the html using getElementById().
The problem I am having is that when I add a person to the database the estimated time will go up appropriately. However when I refresh the page the html resets to 0 like the initial html that is put in.
How do I fix this so that the html will always display the appropriate time even when the page is refreshed?
Html code:
<head>
<title>Wait List</title>
</head>
<template name= "home">
<body>
<h2 id="insert">Approximate Wait Time: 0 Minutes</h2>
<div class="col-lg-6 col-lg-offset-3">
{{>quickForm id="studentForm" collection="Students" type="insert" template="bootstrap3-horizontal" label-class="col-sm-3" input-col-class="col-sm-9"}}
</div>
</body>
</template>
js code:
AutoForm.hooks({
studentForm:
{
onSuccess: function (insert,result) {
var totalCount = Students.find({countNumber:1}).count();
var waitTime = "Approximate Wait Time: " + totalCount*15 +" Minutes";
document.getElementById("insert").innerHTML = waitTime;
...
},
}
});
You should put this into a helper instead of a hook.
Template.home.helpers({
waitTime: function(){
var totalCount = Students.find({countNumber:1}).count();
var waitTime = totalCount*15;
return waitTime;
}
});
and change the <h2> line in the html to this.
<h2 id="insert">Approximate Wait Time: {{waitTIme}} Minutes</h2>
I have a problem with AJAX. I'm trying to POST variable from JQuery from 1 file to another file. When I use a tag "Pokračovať" to redirect myself to next page where I want to use POST variable, it says it doesn't exist. Here's my code:
HTML echoed via PHP:
echo "
<div id=posMid>
<div id=postage>
<div data-value='Slovenská pošta-1,99€' class=pick>Slovenská pošta - 1,99€ (doručenie do 3 pracovných dní)</div>
<div data-value='Kuriér-3,99€' class=pick>Kuriér - 3,99€ (doručenie nasledujúci pracovný deň)</div>
<div data-value='Osobne-0,00€' class=pick>Odber osobne na pobočke - bez poplatkov</div>
</div><!--
--><div id=pay>
<div data-value='Na účet-0,00€' class=pick>Platba na účet - bez poplatkov (overenie do 3 dní)</div>
<div data-value='Platba kartou-0,00€' class=pick>Platba kartou - bez poplatkov (overenie ihneď)</div>
<div data-value='Dobierka-2,99€' class=pick>Dobierka - 2,99€ (platba pri prevzatí)</div>
</div>
</div>";
echo "<div id=navCart>
<a href='cart.php' id=Back>Späť do košíka</a>
<a href='cartStep3.php' id=Next>Pokračovať</a></form>
</div>";
JQuery:
$('#posMid #postage .pick').click(function(){
$(this).parent().find('.pick').removeClass('selected');
$(this).addClass('selected');
var postage = $(this).attr('data-value');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "cartStep3.php",
data:{ post: postage },
success: function(data){
console.log(postage);
}
});
});
Please help, I really don't know where's the problem.

I see it now. When I click on one of the items it performs the AJAX request and returns a truckload of HTML. The problem isn't the code - it's the logic. Once an item is picked, the AJAX runs right away but the variable is no longer available when you click "pokračovať". What you need to do is rethink your logic for what you want done when you click "pokračovať". I am adding two images to your original post to show you what I see. – Jay Blanchard 11 mins ago
I searched for some time but could not find a working solution for my problem (sorry if I searched wrongly)...
I would like to have the equivalent of the following function for an element loaded with ajax:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.div-modal-text').css("background-color","red");
});
Therefore I am using the following code:
$('#parent_id').on('action', '#id or class to be born', function to be performed() );
In my example the parent-child structure is: #projectModals (div whose content is dynamically loaded)>...>.div-project-description>.div-modal-text
This translates into the following code in my example:
$('#projectModals').on('load', '.div-project-description', function() {
$(this).find('.div-modal-text').each(function() {
$(this).css("background-color","red");
});
});
I know 'load' does not work with .on(), but I tried different alternatives and I could not find anything working.
Thanks for your help!
EDIT: Here is my (simplified) HTML code:
<div id="projectModals"></div>
content loaded in #projectModals with Ajax:
<div class="row">
<div class="div-project-idcard">
column 1, don't bother too much about this column
</div>
<div class="div-project-description">
<div id="summary" class="div-modal-text">
Column2, text 1
</div>
<div id="purpose" class="div-modal-text"">
Column2, text 2
</div>
<div id="reforestation" class="div-modal-text">
Column2, text 3
</div>
<div id="certification" class="div-modal-text">
Column2, text 4
</div>
</div>
</div>
If you're waiting for it to be loaded via ajax, consider using $(window).ajaxSuccess() instead:
$(window).ajaxSuccess(function(){
$('#projectModals .div-project-description .div-modal-text').each(function() {
$(this).css("background-color","red");
});
});
for what I understand, you want to change some background color after an ajax has been executed.
I think it's best to make the operation in the ajax success
$.ajax({
url: "some url",
data: {some data},
success: onAjaxSuccess,
});
and then;
function onAjaxSuccess(data){
//.. do things with data
var toExecute = $('#projectModals .div-project-description');
toExecute.find('.div-modal-text').each(function() {
$(this).css("background-color","red");
});
}
EDIT: Would the approach be much easier if the Javascript listed was removed completely, and the dropdown menus restyled as <div>'s within <li>'s, and the final div was generated by a Javascript onclick event? e.g.
<a id="click_link">click me</a>
$("#click_link").click(function(){
$('#div').load('http://www.link.com/');
});
Either way, the problem at hand...
My decision to use an elegant-looking javascript solution is highlighting my massive inexperience when it comes to javascript! The problem is, on the face of it, simple...
Once an option has been chosen on each of the dropdown menus, I need a final div to load so that a specific button can be shown (a link to buy the item with the specified options, e.g. choosing Necklace D, with Stone Option B, and Delivery Option A = loading div with 'Buy' Button #17)
The dropdowns are divs that are filled and styled through the Javascript (as opposed to using the simpler <form> and <input> method), giving the flexibility to add two lines of differently styled text for each option etc. - This is where I step into the realm of the unknown and my inexperience shines through.

Ok, to the code.
Here's the Javascript:
function createByJson() {
var pearlData = [
{description:'Choose your pearl...', value:'Pearls', text:'Pearls'},
{description:'Beautiful black stone', value:'Black Pearl', text:'Black Pearl'},
{description:'Classic white stone', value:'White Pearl', text:'White Pearl'}
];
$("#DropItPearls").msDropDown({byJson:{data:pearlData, name:'pearls', width: 200}}).data("dd");
var blodeuweddData = [
{description:'Choose your item...', value:'Blodeuwedd', text:'the Blodeuwedd Collection'},
{description:'A striking statement', value:'BlodeuweddCelticStatement', text:'Celtic Statement Piece'},
{description:'Gold laced flower and pearl', value:'BlodeuweddBracelet', text:'Bracelet'},
];
$("#DropItBlodeuwedd").msDropDown({byJson:{data:blodeuweddData, name:'blodeuwedd', width: 250}})
.msDropDown({on:{change:function(data, ui) {
var val = data.value;
if(val!="")
window.location = val;
}}}).data("dd");
var deliveryData = [
{description:'Choose your method...', value:'Delivery', text:'Delivery Options'},
{description:'4-6 weeks delivery', value:'Four Weeks', text:'Made To Order'},
{description:'(unavailable on this item)', value:'Rush', text:'Express Delivery', disabled:true}
];
$("#DropItDelivery").msDropDown({byJson:{data:deliveryData, name:'delivery', width: 200, selectedIndex: 1}}).data("dd");
paymentData = [
{ description:'How would you like to pay?', value:'Payment', text:'Payment Method'},
{image:'images/msdropdown/icons/Visa-56.png', description:'Secure online payment', value:'Visa', text:'Visa'},
{image:'images/msdropdown/icons/Paypal-56.png', description:'Secure online payment', value:'Paypal', text:'Paypal'},
{image:'images/msdropdown/icons/EmailPay-56.png', description:'Order by email', value:'Email Payment', text:'Send Your Details'},
{image:'images/msdropdown/icons/Mastercard-56.png', description:'(coming soon)', value:'Mastercard', text:'Mastercard', disabled:true},
{image:'images/msdropdown/icons/Collect-56.png', description:'(coming soon)', value:'Collection', text:'Order and Collect', disabled:true},
{image:'images/msdropdown/icons/Email-56.png', description:'email Menna', value:'Other Method', text:'Alternatives'}
];
$("#DropItPayments").msDropDown({byJson:{data:paymentData, name:'payments', width: 250}}).data("dd");
}
$(document).ready(function(e) {
//no use
try {
var pages = $("#pages").msDropdown({on:{change:function(data, ui) {
var val = data.value;
if(val!="")
window.location = val;
}}}).data("dd");
var pagename = document.location.pathname.toString();
pagename = pagename.split("/");
pages.setIndexByValue(pagename[pagename.length-1]);
$("#ver").html(msBeautify.version.msDropdown);
} catch(e) {
//console.log(e);
}
$("#ver").html(msBeautify.version.msDropdown);
//convert
$("select").msDropdown();
createByJson();
$("#tech").data("dd");
});
function showValue(h) {
console.log(h.name, h.value);
}
$("#tech").change(function() {
console.log("by jquery: ", this.value);
})
//
And the html:
<div id="dropOptions">
<div id="dropOptionsTitle"><p>Item</p></div>
<div id="DropItBlodeuwedd"></div>
</div>
<div id="dropOptions">
<div id="dropOptionsTitle"><p>Precious Stones</p></div>
<div id="DropItPearls"></div>
</div>
<div id="dropOptions">
<div id="dropOptionsTitle"><p>Payment</p></div>
<div id="DropItPayments"></div>
</div>
<div id="dropOptions">
<div id="dropOptionsTitle"><p>Delivery</p></div>
<div id="DropItDelivery"></div>
</div>
<div id="dropOptions">
<div id="dropOptionsTitle"><p>Buy Now!</p></div>
<div id="DropItBuy"></div>
</div>
Again, working version viewable here
Many thanks in advance!
What I think you want is for your Buy button to dynamically read what the dropdowns currently say and build a link for redirection based on that, rather than trying to update the Buy button every time a dropdown changes.
From your code I can't see what the form of the final URL is supposed to be. For example, to get the current value of the delivery option, you can check $('#DropItDelivery :selected').text() which will be something like "Made To Order".
Your Buy Now! could be a button with a click event that reads these values and constructs the URL with basic string concatenation, e.g.:
window.location = "buynow.html?delivery=" + $('#DropItDelivery :selected').text() +
"&payment=" + $('#DropItPayments :selected').text()
// etc.
Of course you'd have to handle these options on the server.
In case you want to redirect to the payment page of the processor, you can just branch based on the payment method and give them the URL you want based on that.
var pm = $('#DropItPayments :selected').text();
if (pm == "Visa")
{
// Visa payment URL construction
}
else if (pm == "Send Your Details")
{
// Send your details URL construction
}
// etc.
