I'm using jQuery in my website.
I want to select all the <hr> elements through jQuery when class starts with line-rooms-sphere. <hr> elements have more than one class.
This is my html:
<hr class="line-rooms-sphere-4 rooms-hidden"/>
// There are 5 hr like this one
This is my jquery code:
$('hr [class^="line-rooms-sphere"]') // => Not working, Why?
$('[class^="line-rooms-sphere"]') // => This Works well
I want to get all the <hr> elements when they have the wanted class (in this case, starting with line-rooms-sphere).
Any help? Thanks
Your first example:
$('hr [class^="line-rooms-sphere"]') // => Not working, Why?
Does not work as you have a space between the hr and the attribute selector. The jQuery selector engine follows CSS rules, so a space means that the second rule should be looked for within the first selected element.
Instead the attribute you want is on the hr itself, so no space is required:
$('hr[class^="line-rooms-sphere"]');
There should be no space between "hr" and "[class... ]" in the selector "$('hr [class^="line-rooms-sphere"]'". Check this snippet.
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<hr class="line-rooms-sphere-4 rooms-hidden"/>
<hr class="line-rooms-sphere-4 rooms-hidden"/>
<hr class="line-rooms-sphere-4 rooms-hidden"/>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('hr[class^="line-rooms-sphere"]').css("border-width","8px");
});
</script>

Good Day.
Actually it is the wordpress site but i need the general solution using jquery(if feasible)
I trying to remove the tag next to end of the div.
See I am using the div as like here
<div class="one_third">
<p>This is for testing</p>
</div>
<br> <!--This one -->
<div class="one_third">
</div>
<br><!--This one -->
<div class="one_third">
</div>
<br><!--This one -->
In the above example i am using the class of one_third in a div inside this div i am using br tag too. But all i am want to remove the br tag which is in outside the div i mean in the end of the div in jquery.
</div>
<br>
I am not sure how to do this in jquery (Actually i try with wordpress disable wpautop is removing the br tag which is inside the div too (I don't want to remove the br tag inside the div only outside the div i mean end of the div )).
Any suggestion would be great :)
Thanks,
vicky
You should just place the HTML on one line.
wpautop inserts <br> on newlines, so placing the HTML code on one line avoids the entire issue.
<div class="one_third"><p>This is for testing</p></div><div class="one_third"></div><div class="one_third"></div>
The way you structure the markup is everything when wpautop is enabled.
It is the next sibling of the element with class one_third
$('.one_third').next('br').remove()
Demo: Fiddle
A non JavaScript solution would be a simple CSS sibling selector
.one_third + br {
display : none;
}
If you really want to use jQuery, you can use the same selector and use remove()
$(".one_third + br").remove();
You can use next() and remove() methods in jQuery for that
$(".one_third").next('br').remove();
I have a small group of items as shown below.
<div class="item">
<div class="date">2013-08-08</div>
<div class="headline"><a data="normal" href="#">Title</a></div>
</div>
<div class="item">
<div class="date">2013-10-08</div>
<div class="headline"><a data="special" href="#">Title</a></div>
</div>
If the title has a data attribute of special, I want to make the date bold for that item only.
I have the below code to try and do this.
<script>
if ($(".headline a [data='special']")){
$( ".date" ).wrap( "<b></b>" );
}
</script>
However this makes all items bold if the condition is true.
I am familiar with using this in JS but not sure how to relate it to another div above.
What is the best way to do this?
I am happy to change the html structure if required as well.
Try the following:
$(".headline a[data='special']").parent().siblings(".date").wrap("<b></b>");
The parent() function will select the div.headline for a matching <a> tag; then, siblings(".date") will select children of the parent of div.headline (which are called siblings) that have the date class.
It sounds like you'd like to select the .date element in .item elements which contain .headline a[data="special"] elements.
$('.item:has(.headline a[data="special"]) .date')
will select the correct .date elements for my given assumptions, you can then call .wrap('<b></b>').
Also note: [data] is not a valid [data-*] attribute. You must have a hyphen and a name for custom data attributes.
Hi I have a problem with my function, when I call it to show my hidden div it does not work. It does not show the hidden div. I followed previous examples from what have been posted in stackoverflow but still my code does not work.
This is my html file
<div id="playTheGame" class="css/outer" style="display:none;" >
<div class="css/inner">
<h1>Choose!</h1>
<section id="hand">
<img src="images/rock.png">
<img src="images/paper.png">
<img src="images/scissors.png">
</section>
</div>
</div>
My Function
<script>
function logSuccess(){
document.getElementById("playTheGame").style.visibility="visible";
}
</script>
The Button I used for the function
<input type="button" onclick="logSuccess()" value="Show">
Change your code to this
document.getElementById("playTheGame").style.display = "block";
Since you hid it using the display property, show it using the display property.
There are two options for this:
One using JavaScript:
object.style.display="block"; // where object will be the playThemGame id element..
And the other one using jQuery; JavaScript library.
$("#playTheGame").show();
The option two won't work, because you will have to write the event function too, So just use the first one as:
document.getElementById("playTheGame").style.display="block";
Edit:
Since you are using
document.getElementById("playTheGame").style.display="block";
To disply the result, then you must use this to remove the display!
document.getElementById("playTheGame").style.display = "none"; to hide it back!
The basic idea is that, this will just shift the object-->style-->display's value to none Its not going to add any more attribute. Its just going to shift current attribute's value.
Hello I have the following code:
Javascript/jQuery:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".clickMe").click(function() {
$(".textBox").toggle();
});
});
Html code printed with a for loop:
<a class="clickMe">Toggle my text</a>
<br />
<div class="textBox"> - This text will be toggled</div>
<a class="clickMe">Toggle my text</a>
<br />
<div class="textBox"> - This text will be toggled 2</div>
<a class="clickMe">Toggle my text</a>
<br />
<div class="textBox"> - This text will be toggled 3</div>
I would like to be able:
When the page loads I want the to be hidden and toggle on click.
Using the same ids for <a class="clickMe"> and <div class="textBox"> to be able to toggle or hide the correct/equivalent <div> element.
jsFiddle code:
http://jsfiddle.net/A7Sm4/3/
Thanks
Edit 1: Class instead of Id
Edit 2: Fixed jsfiddle link
id are supposed to be unique
you should use class to do this
[EDIT] updated the jsfiddle to fit Marko Dumic's solution: http://jsfiddle.net/SugvH/
Something like this should do the trick:
$(document).ready(function() {
var divs = [];
$(".textBox").each(function(index) {
divs[index] = this;
});
$(".clickMe").each(function(index) {
$(this).click(function() {
$(divs[index]).toggle();
});
});
});
ID must (as per spec) be unique on the page. You can easily rewrite this to use class attribute:
<a class="clickMe">Toggle my text</a>
<br />
<div class="textBox"> - This text will be toggled</div>
<a class="clickMe">Toggle my text</a>
<br />
<div class="textBox"> - This text will be toggled 2</div>
...
Initially, you need to either hide div.textBox when DOM becomes ready, or hide it using CSS.
Then you attach click handlers to a.clickMe:
$(function () {
$('a.clickMe').click(function () {
// find first of following DIV siblings
// with class "textBox" and toggle it
$(this).nextAll('div.textBox:first').toggle();
});
});
However, maybe you don't control the markup but desperately need this done, you can keep your markup as it is and still make it work due to the fact that jQuery uses Sizzle framework to query the DOM which can be forced around the limitation of document.getElementById() (which returns only one element).
E.g. suppose you used id instead of class, if you write $('#clickMe'), you'll get the jQuery collection of only one element (jQuery internally used .getElementById() to find the element), but if you write $('#clickMe'), you get the collection of all elements with the id set to "clickMe". This is because jQuery used document.getElementsByTagName('a') to find all anchors and then filtered-out the elements (by iterating and testing every element) whose attribute value is not "clickMe".
In that case (you used your original markup), this code will work:
$(function () {
$('a#clickMe').click(function () {
$(this).nextAll('div#textBox:first').toggle();
});
});
Again, don't do this unless you absolutely need to!
$(document).ready(function() {
$("a").click(function() {
$(this).parent().find("div").toggle();
});
});
Use something similar to this.
Try appending an index to each pair of a/div's ids (clickme1 and textbox1, etc). Then when an a is clicked, read the id, take the index off the end, and show/hide the textbox with the same index.
I'm trying to select the text from the name attribute of the anchor element of the last Comment div in the Comments div (i.e. comment_3037) How can I select it?
Here's my html:
<div id="Comments">
<div class="Comment"><!-- last "Comment" element in the div -->
<a name="comment_3037"></a>
<img src="">
<div>
<div class="Stats">Some info goes here</div>
<div class="Body">Comment goes here.</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Corrected Version
(dojo.query always returns a nodelist)
This would look something like that:
var nodelist = dojo.query('#Comments > .Comment:last-child > a[name]);'
var value = dojo.attr(nodelist.at(0), 'name');
Explanation: #Comments > .Comment selects all nodes with class Comment inside the node with id Comments. :lastChild reduces this selection to the last child. > a[name] selects all immidiate children of type a with the attribute name.
The second line just gets the value from the name attribute of the node.
You should get the correct element with that, but I haven't tested it.
Have a look at the dojo reference, there are tons of useful functions.
(I don't work at dojo, I just really like it ;) )
Info
http://docs.dojocampus.org/dojo/query
EDIT
To make sure that you get only the node you want (if you add another link with a name attr), you could add a class "thisisthelinkiwant" (or similar ;) ) to the appropiate link and updating the query to 'Comments .thisisthelinkiwant:last-child'.
You might consider reading about css selectors, as they are quite important with this function.
