data: "action=getTrainForDate&trainNo=16649&trainStartDate=11/04/2014&t=1397216860215&18q1xp3lm5=1ptur1oxbz1i5vwea0u61397214250740",

});
}

<body>
hi
</body>
</html>
The URL you are requesting returns (function(){location.reload();})(), which is not JSON, JSONP or any form of useful data.
Just to update you need to use jsonp instead of json because you're going to get CORS error otherwise. Updated code is
$.ajax({
type:'GET',
url: "http://www.enquiry.indianrail.gov.in/ntes/NTES",
data: {"action" : "getTrainForDate", "trainNo" : "16649", "trainStartDate" : "11/04/2014", "t" : "1397216860215", "18q1xp3lm5" : "1ptur1oxbz1i5vwea0u61397214250740"},
dataType: "jsonp",
success:function(data){
alert(data);
}
});
Note there's nothing wrong in your way of sending data as string, I just prefer object way.
Now when you make a call you'll end up getting this message (and not data)
Resource interpreted as Script but transferred with MIME type text/plain: "http://www.enquiry.indianrail.gov.in/ntes/NTES?callback=jQuery2119973546624…1397216860215&18q1xp3lm5=1ptur1oxbz1i5vwea0u61397214250740&_=1397220999300".
This is where problem is. If you hit the formed URL, it'll give you JavaScript function as a response and no data. This is what you get as a response
(function(){location.reload();})()
I think, server expects unique token (identified by "18q1xp3lm5" : "1ptur1oxbz1i5vwea0u61397214250740" set), for each request. If condition is not met, it sends reload request to the browser.
Since the call is made through AJAX, it's not able reload the page, but due to reused token, there's no result.

I have a URL https://aua.maharashtra.gov.in/aua/rest/checkauastatus
When I visit the URL in a browser, I get an XML response. I want to collect that response in a String using Javascript or jQuery. I tried many things but nothing worked.
Please help me to get that response in a String.
Try this:
$.ajax({
type:'POST',
url:'https://aua.maharashtra.gov.in/aua/rest/checkauastatus',
success: function(response)
{
alert(response);
}
Just see if your expected reponse is coming or not.
Hope this helps.
If you are trying to make a request to other domains, use the below code for reference.
$.ajax({
url: 'https://aua.maharashtra.gov.in/aua/rest/checkauastatus',
dataType: 'jsonp',
jsonpCallback: 'dataResult',
jsonp: 'callback',
});
function dataResult(data) {
//Access your data here.
};
If you are calling ajax with different domain , then ajax will not work, You have to call your server and collect data. For e.g using curl, then return as response. You can also use jsonp if it supports.
I have the following code :
$("#loginSubmitButton").on("click",function(){
var loginUserDetails = {
email: $("#email").val(),
password: $("#password").val()
};
//Send the AJAX request to authenticate the user
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/somewebservice/v1/users/authenticate",
data: JSON.stringify(loginUserDetails),
contentType: "application/json;charset=UTF-8",
dataType: "json",
}).done(function() {
$("#loginResult").text("Login successful");
})
.fail(function() {
$("#loginResult").text("Login failed");
});
});
As per the jquery documentation (unless I am understanding something incorrectly) I expect the done to be fired if I receive a 200 OK from my web server. However, in chrome console I can see a 200 OK response but jquery seems to fire the fail handler.
Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong here?
You need to remove:
dataType: "json"
There are lots of suggestions to remove
dataType: "json"
While I grant that this works it's probably ignoring the underlying issue. It's most likely caused by a parser error (the browser parsing the json response). Firstly examine the XHR parameter in either .always() or .fail().
Assuming it is a parser fail then why? Perhaps the return string isn't JSON. Or it could be errant whitespace at the start of the response. Consider having a look at it in fiddler. Mine looked like this:
Connection: Keep-Alive
Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8
{"type":"scan","data":{"image":".\/output\/ou...
In my case this was a problem with PHP spewing out unwanted characters (in this case UTF file BOMs). Once I removed these it fixed the problem while also keeping
dataType: json
If your server returns empty string for a json response (even if with a 200 OK), jQuery treats it as failed. Since v1.9, an empty string is considered invalid json.
Whatever is the cause, a good place to look at is the 'data' parameter passed to the callbacks:
$.ajax( .. ).always(function(data) {
console.log(JSON.stringify(data));
});
Its contents will give you an understanding of what's wrong.
Need to remove , from dataType: "json",
dataType: "json"
The ajax URL must be the same domain. You can't use AJAX to access cross-domain scripts. This is because of the Same Origin Policy.
add "dataType:JSONP" to achieve cross domain communication
use below code
$.ajax({
URL: cross domain
dataType: 'jsonp'
// must use dataType:JSONP to achieve cross domain communication, otherwise done function would not called.
// jquery ajax will return "statustext error" at }).always(function(data){}
}).always(function(data){
alert(JSON.stringify(data));
}
A few things that should clear up your issue and a couple hints in general.
Don't listen for a click on a submit button. You should wait for the submit event on the form.
The data option for $.ajax isn't expecting a JSON string. It wants a serialized string or an array with name and value objects. You can create either of those easily with .serialize() or .serializeArray().
Here is what I was thinking for your script.
$('#form-with-loginSubmitButton').on('submit', function(e){
e.preventDefault():
var $form = $(this),
data = $form.serializeArray();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/somewebservice/v1/users/authenticate",
data: data
}).done(function(result){
console.log(result);
});
});
So I'm trying to query the below json feed, however I keep getting the error in the topic.
I've searched around this site for possible answers however none that I've come across have worked so far. Commented out datatype and jsonp, jsonpCallback isnt it either, either is data, I've made sure that it validats via http://jsonformatter.curiousconcept.com/ and it does. I really dont know.
$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url: 'http://raidbots.com/json/playerdata/us/mannoroth/usiris',
cache:true,
dataType: 'jsonp',
data: {
format: 'json',
},
success: ranks,
jsonpCallback:'callbackName',
error: function(data) { console.log(data); },
jsonp: false,
});
function callbackName(data){
console.log("jsonpCallback");
}
var ranks = function(data) {
console.log(data);
}
Thank you

The error is in your JSONp data because it's just JSON and not JSONp. JSONp requires the document to be valid JavaScript containing a function call.
If they don't support jsonp you need to use a proxy script (e.g. a php script on your server that retrieves the document) or ask them to send CORS headers so you can use a normal non-JSONp AJAX call to retrieve the data directly.
What I'm working on is providing 1 line instant definitions of terms and perhaps one line answers to few logical questions. Suppose a user inputs "JavaScript" and JavaScript visits the url https://api.duckduckgo.com/?q=JavaScript&format=json&pretty=1, gets the item "Definition" (Look at the API link to understand, Definition is in the first line itself) and displays its value of Definition and alert the user with the required data.
Anyways my code currently is:
<html>
<head>
<title>Hi</title></head>
<body>
<input id="ddgAPI"><button>Search</button>
<div id="output"></div>
</body>
</html>
Please note that I've not put in the required JavaScript/jQuery code as I'm confused with this. Thank you :)
Because this is a cross-domain request you can only do this with a proxy or with JSONP. Fortunately DuckDuckGo supports JSONP, so you just need to ensure that you add a callback parameter to the URL request like:
https://api.duckduckgo.com/?q=JavaScript&format=json&pretty=1&callback=jsonp
... or use the appropriate jsonp parameter with jQuery's ajax method, something like:
$('#ddgAPI').on('keyup', function(e) {
if (e.which === '13') {
$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url: 'https://api.duckduckgo.com/',
data: { q: $(this).val(), format: 'json', pretty: 1 },
jsonpCallback: 'jsonp',
dataType: 'jsonp'
}).then(function (data) {
console.log(data);
});
}
});
Use jQuery.ajax() to talk to the remote service. url should be https://api.duckduckgo.com. type should be GET. data should be:
var data = { q:'JavaScript', format:'json', pretty:1 };
jQuery will then compile everything into an AJAX request, send it to the server. Pass a function as success so you can do something with the result:
$.ajax({
url: "https://api.duckduckgo.com",
type: "GET",
data: { q:'JavaScript', format:'json', pretty:1 },
success: function(data) { $('#output').html(data); }
});
I am facing problem when I am posting a JSON data to the server using Ajax call in jQuery the function does not enter success mode. When I post using the POSTER Plugin of Firefox it gets posted successfully. Sharing the code snippet and screenshot of the same:
function showSubscribeContent()
{
alert("*1*------- SUB CLICKED");
var myJSONData = '{"data":{"mode" : "subscribe","technologyareas":[1],"assettypes":["podcast","documents"]}}';
alert("*2*------- POSTING--------->"+myJSONData);
$('#subscribePage').html('<h1>POSTING...</h1>');
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'https://tt.s2.acc.com/tt/subscribe-service/uid=sagar_mate',
data: myJSONData,
dataType: 'application/xml',
success: function(data) {
alert("*3*------- POSTED SUCCESSFULLY TO THE SERVER");
$('#subscribePage').html('<h1>POSTED</h1>');
} // Success Function
}); // Ajax Call
}
I am getting alert number 1 and 2 but not 3.
Also when I post using POSTER plugin of Firefox, it gets posted easily.
The Response is success.
I am unable to post the same data using AJAX call.
Thanks,
Ankit
Unless and until the URL in your AJAX call is of the same Domain, I don't think it will get posted successfully. POSTER plugin of Firefox doesn't put any such restriction on the domain, but browser will put this restriction on the application.
Try checking in the error: function(){alert(4);}
to see if it reaches the error handler atleast
Please clearify what you want, when using POSTER Plugin of Firefox you have specified datatype as json where as when using ajax you are using xml.
If you what to post data as JSON use JSON.stringify which accepts JSON object and convert it to string.
Try with this code
function showSubscribeContent()
{
alert("*1*------- SUB CLICKED");
var myJSONData = {"data":{"mode" : "subscribe","technologyareas":[1],"assettypes":["podcast","documents"]}};
alert("*2*------- POSTING--------->"+myJSONData);
$('#subscribePage').html('<h1>POSTING...</h1>');
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'https://tt.s2.acc.com/tt/subscribe-service/uid=sagar_mate',
data: myJSONData,
dataType: 'application/json',
success: function(data) {
alert("*3*------- POSTED SUCCESSFULLY TO THE SERVER");
$('#subscribePage').html('<h1>POSTED</h1>');
} // Success Function
}); // Ajax Call
}
Here I have changed the following lines
Converted myJSONData to a JSON object from string
var myJSONData = {"data":{"mode" : "subscribe","technologyareas":[1],"assettypes":["podcast","documents"]}};
Note: try with the string(the way you were doing) if this is not working for you
Changed datatyle to JSON
dataType: 'application/json',
Adding a header in beforeSend Function worked fine for me. Security reasons of CORS.
