I am trying to disable a textbox in SharePoint WSS3 and force a specific value (given by another JavaScript function) but I can't seem to find the right way of doing it. I have come across different issues. Let's say I have a normal single line text value named prova and another one named Description. Description is required, prova is not.
First Issue: If the field IS required, even if there is something in the textbox, SharePoint says otherwise and does not allow me to insert the entry.
$(document).ready(function(){
//var value = someFunction(...);
var value = "test";
$("input[title='Description']").attr("disabled", "disabled");
$("input[title='Description']").val(value);
});
Second Issue: If the field IS NOT required SharePoint doesn't say anything but it inserts a blank value instead of the one given.
$(document).ready(function(){
//var value = someFunction(...);
var value = "test";
$("input[title='prova']").attr("disabled", "disabled");
$("input[title='prova']").val(value);
});
I have a feeling that tells me that there is some kind of SharePoint JavaScript function somewhere that listens for KeyUp or something. I have really no idea what to do now...
EDIT: It looks like the problem is related to disabling the textbox, if I comment the line where I disable the textbox it works in both scenarios. Maybe if I catch the insert request I can re-enable the textbox before SharePoint do the actual post. No idea how to do it though...
Your problem really is related to disabling the textbox first. By default disabled textboxes are not contained in the POST request in IE.
See this post: Disabled form inputs do not appear in the request or this one: how to save data by disabled text box?
What you actually want to do is set the readonly attribute of the field, not disable it (readonly="readonly"). The problem with that is that the readonly state sometimes looks the same as the default state, so you also have to add some CSS to make it look greyed out.

Good night guys, I have a very simple angular question. I have a form, it has a specific field that I set the value for a patch value but at the same time I need to disable this field. However after the disable, the value is not sent to the back end to be inserted anymore. I've done the test and I saw that only with the patch value, the value is sent normally and inserted in backend normally, but when I disable it, it loses the value and is not sent to the back, I already tried onlyself but I didn't succeed , I would like your help if possible, thanks for your attention. Ah I know that html disable works, but I would like to know if there is any way for me to do this in typescript by disabling the field in the form.
iniciarSituacaoCadastro(){
if(this.visualizar){
this.formPesquisar.controls['address'].patchValue(Address.ATIVO);
this.formPesquisar.controls['address'].disable({onlySelf: true});
}
}
Use getRawValue() instead of value.
https://angular.io/api/forms/FormGroup#getRawValue
getRawValue() retrieves all values regardless of disabled status. The
value property is the best way to get the value of the group, because
it excludes disabled controls in the FormGroup.
I have a form where a user can chose the applications he has access to? and when he the applications he wants access to, he is presented with more options. One of them is notification email address. if the user choses two applications, he gets two notification email address fields to fill. But both of them are stored in the same column in the database.
There are multiple fields like user authorisation level, user branch etc which are uniform accross all applications.
i am trying to replicate the value of one field in the other with jquery. i tried the below which obviously fails. Can anyone suggest how to acheive the replication?
$("#email").val().change(function() {
$("#email1").val($("#email").val());
});
Edit: I have drop down fields as well as text boxes.
.val() returns a string which cannot have a change event. You need to use
$("#email").change(function() {
$("#email1").val($(this).val());
});
You will want to bind the change event using on or live depending on your version of jquery, if you haven't wrapped this piece of code in a ready block.:
$("#email").on("change",function() {
$("#email1").val($(this).val());
});
This fiddle shows setting a <select> tags value using .val() http://jsfiddle.net/8UG9x/
It is an often asked question:
Copy another textbox value in real time Jquery
depending on when you need this action to execute, but if live
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#proname').live('keyup',function() {
var pronameval = $(this).val();
$('#provarname').val(pronameval.replace(/ /g, '-').toLowerCase());
});
});

another one, basically same:
JQUERY copy contents of a textbox to a field while typing
When i click on a textfield, i get a dropdown so the user could select a value from the list.
After the user selects the date from the dropdown, he/she could edit the date by even adding characters to it. So i want to find a way to prevent this. I thought of making the field un-editable. So i used readonly but, this prevents the user from clicking and displaying the list. So can someone tell me how can i make the field uneditable.
<input id="datePiccc" type="text" class="dates" />
You can use the below code. This will make the text input field clickable but when the user types in anything, nothing would happen.
document.getElementById('datePiccc').onkeydown = function(e){
e.preventDefault();
}
Fiddle Demo
As pointed out by nnnnnn, onkeydown is a better option than onkeypress as it would stop the delete and backspace key functions.
You could add the below also to your code to nullify Cut and Paste events1. (Note: Not doing anything for Copy as that operation isn't going to change the value of the text field).
document.getElementById('datePiccc').oncut = function(e){
e.preventDefault();
}
document.getElementById('datePiccc').onpaste = function(e){
e.preventDefault();
}
1 I think these should work in all browsers. Currently tested in Chrome 31, Opera 15, IE10 and FireFox 24. (Note: In IE10, there is an x mark which appears on the right side of the input field which when clicked clears the entire field value. Could not find a way around this.)
I'm assuming the text field is being set in javascript. If so, you can use the following line to disable the field:
document.getElementById('datePiccc').disabled=true;
The input will remain as it is and the value from the selection field can also be set.
Disable the input in JQuery as
$("#datePiccc").attr("disabled", true);
And in pure JS
document.getElementById('datePiccc').disabled = true;
May be this can help!
How can I copy the form field values from one set of fields to another using javascript.
The idea here is to have a 'use shipping/billing address' type of button that copies the user information from one block of fields to another identical set of fields.
Right now, I call an action upon click of a button to execute the following javascript:
this.field1.value = this.field2.value;
However that action yields an 'undefined' error in the debugger.
For posterity, this is the solution to the problem:
getField("field2").value = getField("field1").valueAsString;
Also, note that field2 is set to field1 so the order is backwards.
I used the following code to avoid overwriting the value in the second field if it has something in it already:
//Set the source and destination vars:
var source = this.getField("Box1");
var destination = this.getField("Box2");
//See if destination is empty and if so, insert source value
if(destination.value==''||destination.value==null){destination.value=source.value}
I used it on "On Blur" of the source Field, but you could use a button with "Mouse Up" as the trigger. (I found the code on this website. It includes more complicated options for populating multiple fields or even joining values from two source fields into one destination field.)
I have input field
<input type="text" name="vehicle_make[]" id="make1"/>
and i have help dropdown that updates this field if user choose to do so. I do it trough standard jquery code
$("#make1").val("value");
Problem is, since i use validate plugin to validate this field, if user click on validate before entering anything in that box, he will get notice that he needs to fill it, but then if he fills it trough dropdown, validate plugin will not detect it until user click on submit again.
I know i could call submit in function in which i process dropdown, but i think that it is not right solution, since i would need to check if validation is already done before doing that (since if it is not, it would start validation before i want it to start).
I also need to tie some other things to that field also, so i would like to know is there is a way in which i could write function so it always check if field is filled, even if user did not fill it directly.
Sorry if i didn't explain everything right, this is my first message here.
Try this
$("#make1").change(function(){
//do something there
});
I have found solution. First, i created js variable form_submitted, and added onclick event to submit button, to change value of variable form_submitted to yes. Then, i created function:
function update_validation(){
if(form_submitted == 'yes'){
$("#my_form").valid();
};
};
that i call when user do something that is not detected regularly with validate plugin. This function manually starts validation again, but only if it has been started before by clicking on submit.
