I am trying to make a button bar that changes an attr of a defined object but cannot get it to work. See below code snippets (CSS Not included):
Button Bar Code
<ul id="filtering-nav">
<li class="work button active" value="../servlet/Web">Work</li>
<li class="like button" value="../servlet/Home">home</li></ul>
Script Code
<script> var buttons = $("#filtering-nav .button"); buttons.click(function(){
buttons.removeClass("active");
$(this).addClass("active");
$( "#alpha100" ).attr("data", $("#filtering-nav .button.selected").val() );});</script>
Target Object Code
<object id='alpha100' type="text/html" data="" width="100%" height="100%"></object>
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here?
I can get something similar to work with a drop down box.
You seem to want .button.active instead of .button.selected.
But you can make your code simpler :
var buttons = $("#filtering-nav .button");
buttons.click(function(){
buttons.removeClass("active");
$(this).addClass("active");
$("#alpha100" ).attr("data", $(this).attr('value'));
});
Note that today custom attributes should be named data-something. data and value aren't good attribute names. Using standard custom data attributes, you'd use the specific data function :
$("#alpha100" ).data("something", $(this).data('otherthing'));
I don't know what is happening behind the scenes when you try to use value for a li tag. That might be part of the problem so I suggest you this approach (using data attribute)
HTML
<ul id="filtering-nav">
<li class="work button active" data-value="../servlet/Web">Work</li>
<li class="like button" data-value="../servlet/Home">home</li>
</ul>
JS
<script>
var buttons = $("#filtering-nav .button"); buttons.click(function(){
buttons.removeClass("active");
$(this).addClass("active");
$( "#alpha100" ).attr("data", $("#filtering-nav .button.selected").data('value') );});
</script>
Something else (as dystroy pointed out): did you mean .button.active instead of .button.selected?

I have the following code structure. Its a set of wordpress tabs. I have many tabs all over the website, using Jquery i want to trigger a function when a user clicks one of the links, however i cant apply a ID atribute so my funtion below doesnt work...any suggestions?
JQUERY
$('#1485856532455-70ee0dfe').on('click', function() {
$('.otherdiv').css('background-image', 'url(http://placehold.it/200x200/ff0000)');
})
HTML
<ul class="vc_tta-tabs-list">
<li class="vc_tta-tab">
<span class="vc_tta-title-text">Title</span>
</li>
<li class="vc_tta-tab">
<span class="vc_tta-title-text">Title</span></li>
</ul>
You can't select them by ID because they don't have IDs. But you can use CSS Atrribute-Equal Selector to get them by href attribute. Like this:
$('[href="#1485856532455-70ee0dfe"]').on('click', function() {
// ...
}
More CSS Selectors here.
Working code snippet:
$('[href = "#1485856532455-70ee0dfe"]').click(function() {
alert("#1485856532455-70ee0dfe was clicked! Hoooray!");
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<ul class="vc_tta-tabs-list">
<li class="vc_tta-tab">
<a href="#1485856532455-70ee0dfe"> <span class="vc_tta-title-text">Title</span>
</a>
</li>
<li class="vc_tta-tab">
<span class="vc_tta-title-text">Title</span>
</li>
</ul>
Use attribute selector then :
$('[href="#1485856532455-70ee0dfe"]').on('click', function() {....});
$('#1485856532455-70ee0dfe').on('click', function() { - means that on page we have some element with id 1485856532455-70ee0dfe. In your html code no id with text 1485856532455-70ee0dfe, thats why your code not work.
You have two case to fix:
add id's to needed element
change js to $('[href="1485856532455-70ee0dfe"]').on('click', function() {
You cant give a id to a link like that. However you can select the link with jquery by doing $('[href="#1485856532455-70ee0dfe"]').on('click', function() {....});
I am using one of the bootstrap snippet for login dropdown box in the login box there is a link for Join Us I wanted that when i click on Join Us, the content within the box should get replaced by another box that contains login credentials
I modified the following code
New here ? <b>Join Us</b>
with the code below
New here ? <b>Join Us</b>
and created another content that had id signup-dp like this
<ul id="signup-dp" class="dropdown-menu">
// signup data Inside this part
</ul>
Now when i click on the Join Us link the url of the page gets changed i.e #signup in the end of the url, but the content does not get displayed,
can anyone please tell how to do so
Please check jquery included or not.
Use return false like below
<b>Join Us</b>
#signup-dp{
display: none;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<b>Join Us</b>
<div id="login-dp">login-dp</div>
<div id="signup-dp">signup-dp</div>
Its very simple and you code is working for me only.
<a href="#" onClick="$('#login-dp').hide(); $('#signup-dp').show()">
<b>Join Us</b>
</a>
<a href="#" onClick="$('#login-dp').show(); $('#signup-dp').hide()">
<b>Login</b>
</a>
<ul id="signup-dp" class="dropdown-menu">
// signup data Inside this part
</ul>
<ul id="login-dp" class="dropdown-menu">
// login data Inside this part
</ul>
Please follow this link . JSfiddle
Onclick jQuery is not working, So user Javascript code
New here ? <a href="#" onclick='document.getElementById("login-dp").style.display = "none";document.getElementById("signup-dp").style.display = "visible";'><b>Join Us</b></a>
Put the new hidden element somewhere before your existing element.
unless you write your jQuery code in $(document).ready(); in a separate file, or internal.
Your code is correct. But please check have you included jquery file.
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
This jquery should be included before the jquery code you have written.
Put following jquery code to make signup div initially hidden.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#signup-dp").hide();
});
</script>
First of all, for make good programming habit you have to bind click event instead of write javascript code inside of tag onClick attribute.
<b>Join Us</b>
In your javascript code (try to write code in other js file instead of inline code in HTML page.)
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#btn_join_us").click(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
$('#login-dp').hide();
$('#signup-dp').show();
return false;
});
});
This kind of code make some secure event binding. otherwise anyone can make change your code from inspect element and execute this.
I want to display the href link in the <div id="display"></div> tag so when I press anything in the menu or in my list it'll just open in the div with display as its id.
I have this menu like this done
<div class="menu">
HOME
</div>
<div id="display"></div>
and my JavaScript is like this
$('#display').html($('.menu a').html());
I don't know much about javascript, but I think the javascript code is actually wrong, I would appreciate is someone would help me.
I want to display the href
You need to fetch href property for that you can use .prop()
$('#display').html($('.menu a').prop('href'));
Demo
In case you mean retrieve the page and place it in the div:
// bind click event to all anchors within .menu
$('.menu a').click(function(e){
// fetch the page using AJAX and place the results in #display
$('#display').load(this.href);
// prevent navigating away from the page (default action of anchor)
e.preventDefault();
});
(Or maybe it's just me, but the question seems very hard to understand. :shrug:)
$('.menu a').on('click',function(e){
e.preventDefault(); //this will keep your link from loading
var href = $(e.currentTarget()).attr('href');
$('#display').html(href);
});
We can use an iframe to display the link in the <a> tag.
Here's a fiddle
Here is my version...
HTML
<div class="menu">
<a id="xxx" href="http://stackoverflow.com" onkeydown="myFunc()">HOME</a>
</div>
<div id="display"></div>
JS
$(document).ready(function() {
var data = $("a#xxx").attr("href");
$('#display').html(data);
});
I'm working on a js script which will show / hide multiple divs based on css class, seemingly pretty simple. I set out to find an example of this and found something close in the article linked below. I used the code in the following link as a starting point.
Show/hide multiple divs using JavaScript
In my modified code (shown below) I am able to hide all (which is errant) and show all (which works correctly. I'm not sure why its not targeting the CSS class "red, green or blue" correctly. If I hard one of the class names in the script it works as expected, so I'm fairly certain I'm having an issue in the way I'm referencing the css targets themselves.
I am able to hide all and show all, yet I'm having difficulty showing only the selected class.
Here is the jsFiddle I'm working with: http://jsfiddle.net/juicycreative/WHpXz/4/
My code is below.
JavaScript
$('.categories li a').click(function () {
$('.marker').hide();
$((this).attr('target')).show();
});
$('#cat-show').click(function () {
$('.marker').show();
});
HTML
<ul class="categories">
<li id="cat-show" class="cat-col1" target="all" >All</li>
<li id="cat-models" class="cat-col1" target="red" >Model Homes</li>
<li id="cat-schools" class="cat-col1" target="blue">Schools</li>
<li id="cat-hospital" class="cat-col1" target="green" >Hospitals</li>
</ul>
<div id="locator">
<div id="overview-00" class="marker models" title="Maracay Homes<br />at Artesian Ranch"></div>
<!--SCHOOLS-->
<div id="overview-01" class="marker red" title="Perry High School">1</div>
<div id="overview-02" class="marker red" title="Payne Jr. High School">2</div>
<div id="overview-03" class="marker blue" title="Hamilton Prep">3</div>
<div id="overview-04" class="marker blue" title="Ryan Elementary">4</div>
<div id="overview-05" class="marker green" title="Chandler Traditional – Freedom">5</div>
</div>
Thanks in advance for any responses.
$((this).attr('target')).show();
This is syntactically incorrect. It should be $($(this).attr('target'))
However that's no good either because this is the anchor element that does not have the target. Use $(this).closest('li').attr('target') (or add the target to the <a>).
This is also semantically incorrect as that would interpolate to $("red") which would try to look for a <red> element.
$("." + $(this).closest('li').attr('target'))
http://jsfiddle.net/WHpXz/5/
You are almost there. This is the line that needs tweaking: $((this).attr('target')).show();
$(this) actually refers to the current anchor tag that was clicked. Since the anchor tag doesn't have the target attribute, you need to go up to the parent.
From there, you can get the target and add the '.' to the color to use as a selector.
var catToShow = $(this).parent().attr('target');
$('.' + catToShow).show();
I've edited your fiddle. Give it a shot.

I'm trying to make an JS, but since I'm not an expert on that, maybe someone could help me. I was searching for that in Google and in Stack Overflow, but didn't find what I need. I just found onmouseover that change the class in element itself. But I want something different:
I want to make a onmouseover on a tag to change the class closed to open in other element. Example:
Link
<ul class="dropdown closed"><li>Item</li></ul>
Regards,
If you include jQuery:
Add id for your elements:
Link
<ul class="dropdown closed" id="ul1"><li>Item</li></ul>
Javascript:
$("#a1").mouseover(function(){
$("#ul1").addClass("open").removeClass("closed")
})
You can use Link
And JS:
function changeClass() {
document.getElementById("other-element").className = "open";
}
More advanced JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/eRdHJ/1/
<a href="#" onmouseover=$("ul.dropdown").addClass("open").removeClass("closed")>Link</a>
<ul class="dropdown closed"><li>Item</li></ul>
Here is the jsfiddle : http://jsfiddle.net/eRdHJ/2/
This will access the first <ul> on the page. To narrow it down you need to do a getElementById first to get the elements based on tag name from that point. It will then only select the children from that tag with that certain ID-name;
<script>
function changeUl() {
// Get the first found UL, anywhere in the body
document.getElementsByTagName('ul')[0].className = 'otherName';
}
</script>
Link
With ID
<script>
function changeUl() {
var wrapper = document.getElementById('wrapper');
wrapper.getElementsByTagName('ul')[0].className = 'otherName';
}
</script>
<div id="wrapper">
Link
</div>
You might want to check if there are any found tho. [0] might trigger an undefined/error if there are no <ul> found.
