I need to get a DOM element's width to work with the data later with PHP. The ajax call and the PHP is on the same page.
Here's how the page looks like:
<div id="elem" width="200px"></div>
<script>
let wd = document.getElementById('elem').offsetWidth;
$.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "index.php", data: {"width": wd} });
</script>
<div id="elem2">
<?php
echo $_POST['width'] . 'px';
?>
</div>
So I have elem which has a not fix width and I need to get that so I can work with that in PHP later. It is important to get the width first, because elem is rendered before elem2 and I need elem's width to show elem2 properly.
The current output for echo $_POST['width'] is nothing.
I have seen people getting the ajax data on the same page but they used form inputs, but I POST elem's width.
I don't know this is can help you or not, but you can use success of ajax to show elem1's width inside elem2:
$.ajax({
type: "post",
url: "index.php", //or somewhere else,
data: { width: wd },
dataType: "json",
success: function( response ) {
document.getElementById("elem2").innerHTML = response.width
}
})

I'm having some trouble getting my form to submit data to my PHP file.
Without the AJAX script that I have, the form takes the user through to 'xxx.php' and submits the data on the database, however when I include this script, it prevents the page from refreshing, displays the success message, and fades in 'myDiv' but then no data appears in the database.
Any pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Pulling my hair out over this one.
HTML
<form action='xxx.php' id='myForm' method='post'>
<p>Your content</p>
<input type='text' name='content' id='content'/>
<input type='submit' id='subbutton' name='subbutton' value='Submit' />
</form>
<div id='message'></div>
JavaScript
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#subbutton").click(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
var content = $("#content").attr('value');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "xxx.php",
data: "content="+content,
success: function(html){
$(".myDiv").fadeTo(500, 1);
},
beforeSend:function(){
$("#message").html("<span style='color:green ! important'>Sending request.</br></br>");
}
});
});
});
</script>
A couple of small changes should get you up and running. First, get the value of the input with .val():
var content = $("#content").val();
You mention that you're checking to see if the submit button isset() but you never send its value to the PHP function. To do that you also need to get its value:
var submit = $('#subbutton').val();
Then, in your AJAX function specify the data correctly:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "xxx.php",
data: {content:content, subbutton: submit}
...
quotes are not needed on the data attribute names.
On the PHP side you then check for the submit button like this -
if('submit' == $_POST['subbutton']) {
// remainder of your code here
Content will be available in $_POST['content'].
Change the data atribute to
data:{
content:$("#content").val()
}
Also add the atribute error to the ajax with
error:function(e){
console.log(e);
}
And try returning a var dump to $_POST in your php file.
And the most important add to the ajax the dataType atribute according to what You send :
dataType: "text" //text if You try with the var dump o json , whatever.
Another solution would be like :
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "xxxwebpage..ifyouknowhatimean",
data: $("#idForm").serialize(), // serializes the form's elements.
dataType:"text" or "json" // According to what you return in php
success: function(data)
{
console.log(data); // show response from the php script.
}
});
Set the data type like this in your Ajax request: data: { content: content }
I think it isnt a correct JSON format.
I am trying to set the content of an empty div after an AJAX call with the data message. I also wired the function to my CHtml::submitButton, which should call the function when clicked, but nothing is happening. Any suggestions?
<div id="myResult">
</div>
JavaScript:
function successMessage(){
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
data: "<div> Replace div with this contentf</div>",
success: function(data){
$('myResult').html(data);
}
})
}
PHP:
echo CHtml::beginForm(array('myForm'), 'get', array('form'));
echo '<div class="row form">';
echo '<div class="row buttons">';
echo CHtml::submitButton('Download Content', array('htmlOptions' => 'successMessage()'));
echo '</div>';
echo '</div>';
Your problem relies in the following line:
$('myResult').html(data);
Here, you are trying to do a jquery selection to an element, which you are not using in your html (this is only possible via pollyfils). So you have to select the element by its ID:
$('#myResult').html(data);
And another thing i've seen, what is the url where you are doing the request?
<script>
function successMessage(){
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "/please/add/an/url/",
data: "<div> Replace div with this contentf</div>",
success: function(data){
$('myResult').html(data);
}
})
}
</script>
first of all, when you are using onclick function like this :
<input type="submit" onclick="successMessage()">
you should use this instead:
<input type="submit" onclick="successMessage();result false;">
but when you are already using jquery, then better approach is:
$( document ).ready(function() {
successMessage(){
// your ajax goes here
}
$('#myResult').click(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
successMessage();
});
});
Then you need to repair your successMessage function. You see, the data you are setting there are not the data, that are coming out as an output. If you need ajax then you probably want to get the result from some php script on some other url. Then you should do it like this :
function successMessage(){
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url : 'index2.php',
dataType: "json",
data: { mydata: '<div> Replace div with this content</div>'},
success: function(data){
$('#myResult').html(data);
}
})
}
Then you need a php file named index2.php which can look like this :
<?php
echo json_encode($_GET['variable']);
?>
And i dont know if this your line :
echo CHtml::submitButton('Download Content', array('htmlOptions' => 'successMessage()'));
also put the </form> tag after the form to close it.
This should work for you. I tried it and it works fine.
Try this:
$.ajax({
url: "test.html",
type: "GET",
data: "<div> Replace div with this contentf</div>",
success: function(data){
$('#myResult').html(data);
}
})
selector jQuery incorrect in response ajax. and define Url in ajax.
I'm new to Ajax and need some help with this.
The idea is simple, I have a list of directories within the div 'list' and when I click on one of the directories, the div 'content' must list the content of this directory with a php function.
This is my html code:
<div id="list">
<ul>
<li id="directory_1" class="test">directory_1</li>
<li id="directory_2" class="test">directory_2</li>
<li id="directory_3" class="test">directory_3</li>
<li id="directory_4" class="test">directory_4</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div id="content">
<!-- Here you can see the folder content-->
</div>
This my jQuery + Ajax:
$(".test").click(function(){
var name = $(this).attr("id");
$.ajax({
url: 'list.php',
type: "POST",
data: ({folder: name}),
});
});
It works, I arrive to list.php. And on PHP I have a function that lists directory content.
So how can I refresh 'content div' with the php function?
So if I click on directory_1 it will show /var/www/pg/directory_1 folders, and then if I click on directory_2 it will clear the 'content' div and will then list out the directory_2 folders.
Here is a jsfidde without the PHP code:
http://jsfiddle.net/e5v1dgpc/
Sorry for my English, if someone has a question I will try to clarify.
You could do something like this:
jQuery('#content').html('');
Which will just set everything inside the html to be blank.
Or I think you could use .empty() - http://api.jquery.com/empty/
If you called it at the start of your function then it should clear the div before repopulating it.
$(".test").click(function(){
var name = $(this).attr("id");
$( "#content" ).empty();
$.ajax({
url: 'list.php',
type: "POST",
data: ({folder: name}),
});
});
In order to set the target of your ajax you could do something like this with a success condition. You'd need to change it to display whatever content you want.
$.ajax({
url: 'list.php',
type: 'POST',
success: function(html) {
var divSuccess = $('#content', $(html)).addClass('updated');
$('#content').html(divSuccess);
}
});
This link might also be useful to you - jquery ajax load certain div
Instead of Emptying the 'content' div initially, you can empty it
OnSuccess of the Ajax post, as below:
$(".test").click(function(){
var name = $(this).attr("id");
$.ajax({
url: 'list.php',
type: "POST",
data: ({folder: name}),
success: function(){
$( "#content" ).empty();
}
});
});
Hope this is what you are looking for..
Hi All I have the following code to pass a JS variable using AJAX as seen below:
function buttonCallback(obj){
var id = $(obj).attr('id');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/project/main/passid",
data: { 'id': id },
success: function(msg){
window.alert(msg);
}
});
}
if I put an alert box in I can see the object id is successfully getting grabbed. however if in php I want to simply return the variable - I am getting a null has anyone got any ideas:
heres my PHP function (I am using Codeigniter):
public function passid(){
$courseId = $this->input->post('id');
echo $courseId;
}
EDIT: the success alert box appears - but appears blank and that is my issue I am hoping to see the ID
1. Can you make sure id equals something by doing this:
function buttonCallback(obj){
var id = $(obj).attr('id');
alert( id ); // What does it alert?
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/project/main/passid",
dataType: "json",
data: { 'id': id },
success: function(msg){
window.alert(msg.id);
}
});
}
2. Your javascript looks good... Can you try this instead to see if it works:
JS
function buttonCallback(obj){
var id = $(obj).attr('id');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/project/main/passid",
dataType: "json",
data: { 'id': id },
success: function(msg){
window.alert(msg.id);
}
});
}
PHP
public function passid(){
$courseId = $this->input->post('id');
$response = array( "id" => $courseId );
header('Content-Type: application/json');
echo json_encode( $response );
}
3. If this does not work, can you try and rename from id to something like poopoo, just to make sure id is not taken and being weird?
4. Can you check what the network response is of your ajax request - Go to developer toolbar and goto network section, make sure you hit the record/play button. then send your request off. When you see your request come up in the network list, check the "details" of it and goto response.
I'm populating a table with values from my database. I have included a delete icon in rows which can be deleted. The image has an onclick='deleteCat(id);' property, the id is taken from a json array trough a loop like so:
string = "<td align='center'><a href=''><img border='0' src='../images/Bullet-Delete.png' alt='delete' onclick='deleteCat("+json[i]['id']+");'/></a></td>";
This is my deleteCat function:
function deleteCat(id){
var dataString = "catId=" + id;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../ajax/categorie_verwijderen.php",
data: dataString,
success: function(data) {
//$("#allecat").find("tr:gt(0)").remove();
//update_table();
}
});
//alert(id);
}
My function works when I put an alert after the ajax. The table refreshes and the row is removed from my db. However when I remove the alert my function does not work, the table is refreshed and the row is still present in the table and db.
Thanks in advance.
You need to prevent the default event for the click - ie the page is being reloaded each time you click on the image
function deleteCat(id){
var dataString = "catId=" + id;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../ajax/categorie_verwijderen.php",
data: dataString,
success: function(data) {
$("#allecat").find("tr:gt(0)").remove();
update_table();
}
});
return false; // prevent the browser following the href
}
You will also need to change your html :
onclick='return deleteCat("+json[i]['id']+");
The alert() helps because that delays the processing of the remaining javascript in that function. The ajax send data asynchronously. async key is Default: true and should change it to false in your call till the client wait for end of ajax call.
e.g.:
$.ajax({
async:false,
url: "test.html",
.
.
});
